  1. 1. Embedded Systems and FPGAs for Implementation of Control Oriented Models, Applied to Combustion Engines

    Author : Carl Wilhelmsson; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : NOx; NO; Nitrogen Oxides; Emissions; Air pollution; Algorithms; Physical model; Mathematical model; FPGA; Field Programmable Gate Arrays; Embedded Systems; Micro-controllers; Engine; Diesel Engine; Internal Combustion Engine; Combustion Control; Engine Control.;

    Abstract : Performance demands put on combustion engines are ever increasing, e.g. demands on emissions and fuel consumption. The increased demands together with new combustion concepts increase the need for feedback engine and combustion control. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aero Engine Intercooling

    Author : Xin Zhao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PIV; CFD; porous media; aero engine; pressure measurements; intercooling control; system performance; intercooler; variable flow path;

    Abstract : Intercooling has the potential to provide a shortcut to the next generation aero engines with higher bypass ratio (BPR), higher overall pressure ratio (OPR) and higher turbine inlet temperature (TIT) by lowering the high pressure compressor (HPC) delivery temperature. To be able to establish a systematic understanding of aero engine intercooling, the heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics of a given intercooler architecture need to be known in the parameter range anticipated for the engine optimization. 3. 3. Model-Based Diesel Engine Management System Optimization - A Strategy for Transient Engine Operation

    Author : Markus Grahn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engine management system; Modeling; Engine control; Diesel engine; Fuel Consumption; Optimization; Emissions; Calibration; Simulation;

    Abstract : To meet increasingly strict emission legislation and stronger demands on fuel consumption, typical passenger car diesel engines become increasingly complex with more and more controllable systems added. These added systems open up for the possibility to operate the engine at more efficient conditions, but it also becomes more challenging to optimize the settings in the engine management system. 4. 4. Full Cycle Engine Simulations with Detailed Chemistry

    Author : Adina Gogan; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasmas; Gaser; Gases; fluid dynamics; aktuariematematik; programmering; operationsanalys; Statistik; actuarial mathematics; programming; operations research; Statistics; detailed kinetics; emissions; engine knock; autoignition; modeling; spark ignition engine; diesel engine; fluiddynamik; plasma; Technological sciences; Teknik; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; stochastic reactor model;

    Abstract : The modeling work developed in this thesis can be divided in two main areas of investigations: autoignition related to spark ignition engine and combustion and emissions formation in relation to diesel engines. A first version of a detailed kinetics engine simulation program, extended to handle full cycle calculations, was employed in order to demonstrate the strong effect that nitric oxide from the residual gas has on the autoignition onset.
