1. Thermal insulation of the combustion chamber in a light duty diesel engine
Abstract : Reduction of heat loss from the combustion chamber in an engine has great potential to decrease fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Research on thermal barrier coatings (TBC) has been performed since the early eighties to address this potential. READ MORE

2. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 3. Buoy and Generator Interaction with Ocean Waves : Studies of a Wave Energy Conversion System
Abstract : On March 13th, 2006, the Division of Electricity at Uppsala University deployed its first wave energy converter, L1, in the ocean southwest of Lysekil. L1 consisted of a buoy at the surface, connected through a line to a linear generator on the seabed. READ MORE

4. Modelling and optimization of gear shifting mechanism, Application to heavy vehicles transmission systems
Abstract : Without an efficient transmission system the idea of an efficient vehicle is incomplete. During running of the vehicle especially in case of heavy vehicles the transmission system has to face different situations during which the system possibly can lose its efficiency. READ MORE

5. Assessment of human swallowing using in-vivo and in-vitro approaches
Abstract : Texture modification is the most vital strategy to manage dysphagia: a condition in which food and beverages are difficult to swallow. Typically thickeners in the form of starch or gums are added to the food to increase the viscosity and thereby reduce the speed of bolus flow. READ MORE
