  1. 6. Streptococci and Platelets - A Study of Host-Pathogen Interaction Dynamics

    Author : Lisbeth Svensson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; host-pathogen interactions; bacterial entrapment; disaggregation; aggregation; platelet activation; Streptococci;

    Abstract : Invasive infections remains one of the leading causes of death due to infections over the world, and efficient treatment remains elusive. One of the major causes of sepsis and other invasive infections is pathogenic streptococci that cause a wide range of clinical manifestations in humans. READ MORE

  2. 7. A study of mold flux entrapment and gas entrainment in an ingot casting process

    Author : Jun Yin; Mikael Ersson; Pär Jönsson; Yogeshwar Sahai; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mold flux entrapments; CFD; Gas entrainment; Ingot casting process; Uphill teeming process; Side teeming process; Numerical simulation; Non-metallic inclusions; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The focus of this work is to study the gas entrainment and mold flux entrapments during the ingot filling process based on physical and numerical modelling.The formation of the free surface was investigated in the uphill teeming method, which illustrates a dynamic change at a quasi-steady state. 3. 8. Exploring Anaerobic Bacteria for Industrial Biotechnology - Diversity Studies, Screening and Biorefinery Applications

    Author : Rosa Aragao; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anaerobic bacteria; industrial biotechnology; biorefinery; microbial diversity; single cell entrapment; llama rumen;

    Abstract : Depletion of easily accessible fossil energy resources, threat of climate change and political priority to achieve energy self-sufficiency and sustainable solutions prioritize a conscious and smart use of renewable resources to generate a bio-based economy. Bio-based compounds can replace chemicals and fuels that are now mainly produced from crude oil. READ MORE

  4. 9. Upper Extremity Musculoskeletal Disorders In Female Machine milkers - An Epidemiological, Clinical and Ergonomic Study

    Author : Marianne Stål; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biaxial eletrogoniometer; movements; wrist positions; pronator syndrome; median nerve entrapment; clinical examination; hands; wrists; upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders; agriculture; Cross-sectional study; female milkers; electromyography muscles of the forearm.; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Abstract : The aims of the thesis were to investigate the prevalence of the upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders in female milkers in relation to other occupational groups; to clarify the relationship between disorders and work environment, psychosocial and life style factors; to compare in a prospective study, pain, ache and discomfort reported by a questionnaire with clinical symptoms and sign; to examine milkers with wrist and hand disorders with regard to type and localization of the tissue injury; to quantify the work load on forearms, wrists and hands during machine milking. An increased risk developing symptoms in wrists and hands was noted in the active milker group compared to the non-milker and the nursing assistant group. READ MORE

  5. 10. Different paths to explore confined crystallisation of PCL

    Author : Nima Sanandaji; Ulf W. Gedde; Mikael S Hedenqvist; Javier Martinez de Salazar; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; crystallisation; poly-ε-caprolactone; end groups; morphology; nanoconfinement; melting; monodisperse; RESS; injet printing;

    Abstract : In this work, different paths to confined crystallisation of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) havebeen explored. Innate confinement effects due to the presence of bulky end groups wereshown to affect crystalline characteristics for strictly monodisperse ε-caprolactone oligomers. READ MORE
