  1. 11. Studies of plasma-facing materials and macromolecules using scanning probe microscopy

    Author : Nils Almqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Fysik;

    Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is experimental analysis of material surfaces using scanning probe microscopies. These microscopes are used for characterization through high-resolution topographical imaging, but also for controlled modification of surfaces and molecules. READ MORE

  2. 12. Environmentally Degradable Polyethylene : Effects of Additives and Environment on the Degradation and Degradation products

    Author : Farideh Khabbaz; KTH; []
    Keywords : LDPE; polyethylene; oxidative degradation; photo-oxidation; thermo-oxidation; degradation products; photosensitisers; pro-oxidant; starch; master-batch; gas chromatography mass-spectrometry; GC-MS; solid phase microextraction; SPME;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises and compares the influences ofdifferent additives (photosensitisers, pro-oxidants, abiodegradable filler) on blown low-density polyethylene (LDPE)films during photo- and thermal degradation with respect tochemical changes in the polymer matrices and identifieddegradation products. Additives studied were irondimethyldithiocarbamate (FeDMC), nickel dibutyldithocarbamate(NiDBC), carbon black, starch, a pro-oxidant that consisted ofmanganese stearate together with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)or natural rubber (NR) and a master batch containing linearLDPE, starch and pro-oxidant. 3. 13. Analysis of human epidermal Langerhans' cells and allergens with confocal laser scanning microscopy

    Author : Axel Emilson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : 3-D analysis; allergen; allergic contact dermatitis; basal cellcarcinoma; Bet v I; birch; confocal laser scanning microscopy; epidermis; HLA-DR; image analysis; invariant chain; irritant contact dermatitis; Langerhans cell; occlusion; P. orbiculare;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to explore confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) as a tool for 1) quantitative and 3-dimensional (3-D) analysis of the human antigen-presenting Langerhans' cell (LC) in epidermis and 2) for localization of allergens in yeast cells and in birch pollen. Epidermal LCs were investigated after occlusion with patch tests and in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) skin. READ MORE

  4. 14. Stabilization of fine-grained soils in cold environment and exposed to seasonal frost : By-products as hydraulic binders

    Author : Mirja Rothhämel; Jan Laue; Sven Knutsson; Craig Lake; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; soft soil; clay; silt; silty sand; soil stabilisation; hydraulic binder; cement; lime; by-product; cement kiln dust CKD ; cold climate; frost; freeze-thaw; laboratory test; field test; subsoil; road construction; feinkörninge Böden; Ton; Schluff; schluffiger Sand; Bodenstabilisierung; hydraulische Bindemittel; Zement; Kalk; Nebenprodukt; Zementofenstaub; kaltes Klima; Frost; Frost-Tau; Laborversuche; Feldversuche; Verkehrsbau; Dauerhaftigkeit; finkornig jord; lera; silt; siltig sand; jordstabilisering; hydraulisk bindemedel; cement; kalk; biprodukt; cement kiln dust CKD ; kallt klimat; frost; frysning-tining; laboratorieanalyser; fältförsök; vägterrass; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis deals with the stabilization of fine-grained soils using by-product originated hydraulic binders. The use of fine-grained soils as subsoil for infrastructure projects is often limited because of the risk for instability. READ MORE

  5. 15. Imperfections in Recycled Aluminium-Silicon Cast Alloys

    Author : Anton Bjurenstedt; Anders Jarfors; Salem Seifeddine; Pål Schmidt; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Imperfections; Recycled cast Al-Si alloy; Fe-rich particles; Melt quality; Fractography; Differential scanning calorimetry.;

    Abstract : In striving to produce high quality cast components from recycled aluminium alloys,imperfections have to be considered, because recycled aluminium usually containsmore of it. However, there are great energy savings to be made by using recycledaluminium; as little as 5% of the energy needed for primary aluminium productionmay be required. READ MORE
