  1. 1. Resource and Environmental Impacts of Resource-Efficiency Measures Applied to Electronic Products

    Author : Hampus André; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scarce metals; life cycle assessment; resource-efficiency; electronic products; resource depletion; circular economy; metal resource use;

    Abstract : Natural resources such as ecosystems, land, water and metals underpin the functioning of economies and human well-being, and are becoming increasingly scarce due to growth in population and affluence. Metals are increasingly demanded for their specific properties as modern technology develops. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Life Cycle Approach to Environmental Sustainability in Aggregate Production Systems

    Author : Christina Lee; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aggregates; Gravel; Sand; LCA; Production Systems; Sustainability; Life Cycle Assessment; Environmental Management; EPDs; Quarries; Tool Development; Environmental Impact; Environmental Product Declarations; Construction Products;

    Abstract : Rock materials, such as sand, gravel, and crushed rock, serve as the foundation of our society. Known collectively as aggregates, these materials are essential for building foundations, concrete, and roads, making them the second most extracted material globally after water. READ MORE

  3. 3. Information Quality in Industrial Environmental Management: Defining and Managing Quality of Environmental Information

    Author : Ann-Christin Pålsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; industrial environmental management; environmental information systems; total quality management; information review; information quality definition; information quality requirements; information quality; information quality management;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to describe how quality of environmental information can be defined and managed to support industrial environmental management. Environmental information is used in industries to monitor and control the environmental aspects of products and processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Managing high environmental performance? : Applying life cycle approaches and environmental certification tools in the building and real estate sectors

    Author : Nils W. O. Brown; Tove Malmqvist; Peter Guthrie; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Buildings; operational energy use; life cycle assessment; environmental certification; environmental assessment; renovation; strategy; design process; value creation; embodied environmental impacts; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis is  to demonstrate and critically assess life cycle approaches’ and environmental certification (EC) tools’ potential for supporting decisions for improved environmental performance in the building and real estate sectors.Using life cycle approaches, the thesis shows that for new build and renovation cases aiming for low operational energy use that embodied global warming potential (GWP) due to material production can constitute a large portion of a building’s lifetime GWP. 5. 5. Chemical substitution with a life cycle perspective: The case of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in durable water repellents

    Author : Hanna Holmquist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LCIA; CAA; LCA; PFAS; DWR;

    Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to support the process of substitution of side-chain fluorinated polymers in durable water repellents (DWRs), that give rise to emissions of hazardous per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). The focus was on: i) the provision of improved decision support regarding the environmental and human health performance of alternatives, and ii) public readiness for substitution and what messages can motivate consumers to voluntary substitution.
