1. Dynamic Chemistry for Asymmetric Synthesis, Molecular Motion and Constitutional Exchange
Abstract : Living matter is built on complex dynamic systems consisting of numerus biotransformations. By exploiting the adaptive and evolutive behaviors ofmolecular matter, dynamic chemistry has developed as an important tool tounderstand the organization of nonliving matter into complex living systems. 2. The xanthophyll cycle, its enzymes, pigments and regulation
Abstract : The xanthophyll cycle involves the light-dependent and reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. Zeaxanthin has been implicated in the protection of the photosynthetic machinery from over-excitation. The enzyme violaxanthin de-epoxidase catalyses the conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. 3. Investigations of New Biomimetic Transamination Systems and Inclusion Complexation with Cyclodextrins
Abstract : Two new transamination systems are described. The first example is a dibenzo[a,d]- cycloheptene containing system, designed to accomplish a [1,3]-hydride transfer. Several catalysts have been examined for this purpose. tris-Pentafluorophenyl borane was found to be the most efficient catalyst. READ MORE

4. Structural and biochemical insights into biosynthesis and degradation of N-glycans
Abstract : Carbohydrates are a primary energy source for all living organisms, but importantly, they also participate in a number of life-sustaining biological processes, e.g. cell signaling and cell-wall synthesis. The first part of the thesis examines glycosyltransferases that play a crucial role in the biosynthesis of N-glycans. READ MORE

5. Enzyme-Based Amperometric Biosensors in Flow-Systems for Biomolecule Detection
Abstract : Amperometric enzyme based biosensors were designed, developed and characterised in flow systems. Solid graphite and carbon paste electrodes were used as support for enzyme immobilisation. Both mediated and direct electron transfers between redox enzymes and electrodes were utilised for biosensor construction, as well as coupled enzyme systems. READ MORE
