  1. 1. Towards Classification and Functional Description of Enzymes: A case study of feruloyl esterases

    Author : Gupta Udatha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; descriptors; enzyme immobilization; catalytic triad; pharmacophore; enzyme promiscuity; functional classification; molecular docking; feruloyl esterases; protein evolution; structure-function relationship;

    Abstract : The prediction of enzyme functionality from sequence or structure data remains a challenging task that can be best addressed by studying the structure-function relationships determined from previously available information. This thesis work was focused on developing a reliable classification and functional description for the feruloyl esterase (FAE) enzyme family, whose members’ possess both structural and catalytic promiscuity. 2. 2. Chemoenzymatic Resolution in Dynamic Systems : Screening, Classification and Asymmetric Synthesis

    Author : Yan Zhang; Olof Ramström; Sabine Flitsch; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; constitutional dynamic chemistry; dynamic systemic resolution; dynamic kinetic resolution; enzyme catalysis; transesterification; enzyme promiscuity; asymmetric synthesis; pattern recognition; self-inhibition.;

    Abstract : This  thesis  is  divided  into  four  parts,  all  centered  around  Constitutional Dynamic  Chemistry  (CDC)  and  Dynamic  Kinetic  Resolution  (DKR)  using biocatalysts for selective transformations, and their applications in screening of bioactive compounds, organic synthesis, and enzyme classification.   In  part  one,  an  introduction  to  CDC  and  DKR  is  presented,  illustrating  the basic  concepts,  practical  considerations  and  potential  applications  of  such dynamic systems, thus providing the background information for the studies in the following chapters. 3. 3. Discovery and investigation of glycoside hydrolase family 5 enzymes with potential use in biomass conversion

    Author : Yang Wang; Henrik Aspeborg; Ines Ezcurra; Jerry Ståhlberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant cell wall; biomass; hemicellulose; mannans; glycoside hydrolase; subfamily classification; Arabidopsis; mannanase; transglycosylase; enzymatic characterization.; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Glycoside hydrolases (GHs) cleave glycosidic bonds in glycoconjugates, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides such as cellulose and various hemicelluloses. Mannan is a major group of hemicelluloses. READ MORE

  4. 4. The evolution of ribonucleotide reductases

    Author : Daniel Lundin; Anthony Poole; Britt-Marie Sjöberg; Christos Ouzounis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; ribonucleotide reductase; horizontal gene transfer; phylogeny; protein classification; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) catalyses the transformation of RNA building blocks, ribonucleotides, to DNA building blocks, deoxyribonucleotides. This is the only extant reaction pathway for de novo synthesis of DNA building blocks and the enzyme is thus necessary for life. RNR is found in all but a few organisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploring glycoside hydrolase family 5 (GH5) enzymes

    Author : Yang Wang; Ines Ezcurra; Henrik Aspeborg; Henrik Stålbrand; Torkel Berglund; KTH; []
    Keywords : GH5; glycoside hydrolase; subfamily classification; mannans; polysaccharides; mannanases; cell wall; GH5; glykosidhydrolas; subfamiljklassificering; mannaner; polysackarider; mannanaser; cellvägg; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : In 1990, the classification of carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) was introduced by the scientist Bernard Henrissat. According to sequence similarity, these enzymes were separated into families with conserved structures and reaction mechanisms. READ MORE
