  1. 11. Antiplasmin the main plasmin inhibitor in blood plasma : studies on structure-function relationships

    Author : Haiyao Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Antiplasmin; lysine-binding-site; inactivation;

    Abstract : Antiplasmin is an important regulator of the fibrinolytic system. It inactivates plasmin very rapidly. The reaction between plasmin and antiplasmin occurs in several steps: first a lysine-binding site in plasmin interacts with a complementary site in antiplasmin. READ MORE

  2. 12. Ecological disturbances and emergence of resistance in the oral and gastrointestinal microflora after drug exposure

    Author : Christina Stark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ecology antimicrobial resistance oral gastrointestinal microflora B-lactamase enzyme induction.;

    Abstract : The exposure of antimicrobial agents and antacids may disturb the ecological balance of the normal microflora. This influence often leads to decreased colonization resistance due to repression of sensitive bacteria and selection of resistant bacteria which have acquired resistance during therapy. READ MORE

  3. 13. Studies on glyoxalase I from erythrocytes

    Author : Anne-Charlotte Aronsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aim of this investigation was to achieve an increased understanding of the properties of glyoxalase I, in order to eventually elucidate the physiological functions of the enzyme. Glyoxalase I was purified to homogeneity by a procedure involving affinity chromatography. READ MORE

  4. 14. Microsomal glutathione transferase : Species characteristics, catalysis and topology

    Author : Claes Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The membrane-bound detoxication enzyme microsomal glutathione transferase is localized predominantly in the liver of mammalian species, where it is present in high concentrations in the endoplasmic reticulum and the outer mitochondrial membrane. The enzyme conjugates a broad range of hydrophobic xenobiotics bearing reactive electrophilic centers to glutathione, which facilitates deactivation and excretion. READ MORE

  5. 15. Sanitisation of faecal sludge by ammonia : treatment technology for safe reuse in agriculture

    Author : Jörgen Fidjeland; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Faecal sludge contains valuable plant nutrients and can be used as a fertiliser in agriculture, instead of being emitted as a pollutant. As this involves a risk of pathogen transmission, it is crucial to inactivate the pathogens in faecal sludge. One treatment alternative is ammonia sanitisation, as uncharged ammonia (NH₃) inactivates pathogens. READ MORE
