  1. 1. Multiphoton Microscopy Targeting Tissue Development. Towards the real-time imaging of epidermal differentiation

    Author : Monika Malak; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multiphoton microscopy; fluorescence lifetime imaging; epidermal differentiation; reconstructed human epidermis; organ-on-a-chip; intrinsic fluorescence;

    Abstract : The development of novel organ-on-a-chip models calls for methodologies, which will allow the study of tissue development and pharmacological outcome in real-time. Multiphoton microscopy (MPM) has been proposed as a suitable technique for noninvasive imaging of live specimens, utilizing intrinsic tissue fluorescence. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mitochondrial differentiation during the early development of the amphibian embryo

    Author : Lennart Nelson; Barbara Cannon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amphibia; Xenopus laevis; Ambystoma mexicanum; mitochondria; differentiation; enzymes; carriers; oxidation; development; Zoophysiology; zoofysiologi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria from Xenopus laevis and Ambystoma mexica- num embryos between fertilization and the beginning of feeding were studied: the former with respect to metabolic behaviour, enzyme pattern and carrier activity, and the latter with respect to morphological parameters.The metabolic behaviour of mitochondria was studied by assessing the rates of oxygen uptake in presence of various substrates. 3. 3. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation

    Author : Cecilia Eriksson Linsmeier; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gtv-a; RCAS A -EGFP; transplantation; cell detection; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; GFP-actin; glial differentiation; neuronal differentiation; neurospheres; glial cultures; bFGF; EGF; cell expansion; cortical primordium; MGE; LGE; CNS; stem- progenitor cells;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 4. 4. Studies on Vitamin A Signaling in Psoriasis : A Comparison Between Normal and Lesional Keratinocytes

    Author : Teresa Karlsson; Jan Öivind Moskaug; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Psoriasis; vitamin A; retinoids; retinoid receptor; differentiation; keratinocyte; skin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Abstract : Vitamin A and metabolites (retinoids) are crucial for normal epidermal maturation. Physiological effects are mediated by retinoic acid (RA) that activates nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RARs) in complexes with retinoid X receptors (RXRs), resulting in altered gene transcription.Psoriasis is a common disease with unknown etiology. 5. 5. Genetic and Molecular Studies of Two Hereditary Skin Disorders

    Author : Johanna Dahlqvist; Niklas Dahl; Anders Vahlquist; Juha Kere; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Monogenic disorder; autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis; KLICK syndrome; Ichthyin; POMP; proteasome; epidermal differentiation; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Monogenic disorders, i.e., disorders caused by mutations in a single gene, are rare and clinically heterogeneous conditions. Identification of the genetic cause of monogenic traits can bring new insights into molecular pathways and disease mechanisms. READ MORE
