  1. 1. Augmentation of vital organ blood flow during experimental cardiopulmonary resuscitation

    Author : Rolf Gedeborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Cardiac arrest; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; epinephrine; high-dose epinephrine; buffer; cerebral blood flow; post-resuscitation period; aortic occlusion; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : Clinical outcome from cardiac arrest remains poor. If the time from arrest to restoration of spontaneous circulation can be shortened and resuscitation techniques improved so that higher blood flow and oxygen delivery to vital organs is achieved, it is possible that the outcome from cardiac arrest could improve. 2. 2. Experimental cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation : A study of cerebral perfusion with special reference to the postresuscitation disturbances

    Author : Ala Nozari; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Cardiac arrest; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; cerebral blood flow; post-resuscitation period; epinephrine; vasopressin; aortic occlusion; isoprostane; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : Ischemic neuronal injury continues to be a major delimiting factor in achieving successful clinical outcomesafter resuscitation from cardiac arrest. In this thesis, a pig model of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) wasused to address the effects of different interventions on cerebral blood flow and oxygenation during CPR and theinitial postresuscitation period. 3. 3. Safety and efficacy of intracameral mydriatics in cataract surgery

    Author : Björn Lundberg; Anders Behndig; Charlotta Zetterström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Ophtalmology; intracameral; mydriatics; pupil; cataract; phacoemulsification; lidocaine; phenylephrine; cyclopentolate; epinephrine; endothelial cell loss; Oftalmiatrik; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Abstract : Background: In order to perform cataract surgery, adequate dilatation of the pupil is essential. This is traditionally achieved by preoperative topical mydriatic eye-drops, commonly cyclopentolate and phenylephrine. This routine has several disadvantages. First, the slow penetration through the cornea delays the onset of mydriasis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Clinical and experimental insights into the use of mechanical chest compressions during prolonged resuscitation in the coronary catheterization laboratory

    Author : Henrik Wagner; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac arrest; mechanical chest compressions; PCI; survival; coronary artery blood flow; epinephrine;

    Abstract : INTRODUCTION. Prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with manual chest compressions (CC) during simultaneous percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is exceedingly difficult, with high mortality rates. The use of a mechanical CC (MCC) device can overcome the ordeal of manual CC. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of Feedback Microwave Thermotherapy in Symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

    Author : Sonny Schelin; Urologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Urology; PET; Schelin Catheter; epinephrine; local anaesthetics; microwave thermotherapy; intraprostatic blood flow; PLFT; Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia; intraprostatic temperature; CoreTherm;

    Abstract : Abstract: The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate ProstaLund Feedback Treatment® (PLFT®) and the CoreTherm® device with regard to biophysics, mechanisms of action, treatment indications, additional techniques, efficacy and safety in the treatment of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The application of two biophysical equations in the PLFT software is explained. READ MORE
