1. High-load injuries in the adolescent athlete's hip; clinical and experimental studies and outcome measures
Abstract : The diagnosis and treatment of hip and groin symptoms has often been a problem area in orthopaedics and sports medicine. Hip and groin pain and injuries are common among athletes and in the increasingly active population. READ MORE

2. The role of estrogen in growth plate chondrogenesis
Abstract : Overall body proportion is determined by the size of the skeleton, which in turn is determined by the rate and duration of longitudinal bone growth. Longitudinal bone growth occurs at the growth plate and is regulated by a variety of hormones and growth factors. READ MORE

3. Articular and epiphyseal cartilage : its formation, maintenance and repair
Abstract : Long bones develop via a series of ordered processes, initiated from mesenchymal stem cell condensation, cartilage anlagen formation, followed by central cell hypertrophy and vascular invasion and the finalized by the formation of primary and secondary ossification centers (SOC), where the latter is also called endochondral ossification. As long bone develops, it can be distinguished in to several morphologically distinct parts: the main shaft of a long bone, called diaphysis; a narrow disc of growth plate, providing a continuous supply of chondrocytes for longitudinal growth; a thin layer of articular cartilage at the ends of epiphysis, supporting joint movement, and a SOC, sandwiched between the two pieces of cartilage. 4. Effect of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) on growth plate cartilage
Abstract : More than 300 years ago Dr. Stephen Hales drilled holes in the shaft of chicken bones and noted that as the animal grew, the distance between these holes remained constant. This led him to conclude that longitudinal bone growth occurs at the end of the long bones, rather than in the middle. READ MORE

5. The role of the microenvironment in growth plate and articular chondrocyte differentiation
Abstract : One crucial process during skeletal development is joint formation. It starts with the interzone appearance characterized by high expression of Gdf5, Gli3, Wnt4 and Wnt9a, low expression of Col2a1 of the local compact elongated cells which subsequently give rise to most joint elements including articular cartilage as the ongoing joint cavitation.
