16. Modeling lichen performance in relation to climate : scaling from thalli to landscapes
Abstract : Lichens can colonize nearly all terrestrial habitats on earth and are functionally important in many ecosystems. Being poikilohydric, their active growth periods are restricted to periods when the thallus is hydrated from atmospheric water sources, such as rain, fog and high relative humidity. READ MORE

17. Bark lesions and sensitivity to frost in beech and Norway spruce
Abstract : Strong temperature fluctuations and pathogen attacks can cause bark lesions, visible signs of wounds in the phloem and cambium. Pathogenic insects and fungi are able to invade lesions that have not healed, further increasing the damage. READ MORE

18. Phylogenetic and ecological studies in lichenology : including studies of both mycobiont and photobiont
Abstract : In this thesis different aspects in lichens are investigated, namely, the phylogeny of mycobiont and photobiont, and ecology in the form of species richness of certain habitats of the Uppland province, Sweden.Analyses of ITS sequences of the lichenized fungi genus Roccella (Roccellaceae) provide an intrageneric topology of the genus with emphasis on the European, Mediterranean and Macaronesian species. 19. Genetic structure and dispersal in plant populations
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the spatial structure and methods to identify spatial structure in plants. Methods that investigate genetic structure can mainly be divided into equilibrium methods that reveal summed dispersal over many generations, and cluster methods, that reveal more recent dispersal events. 20. The impact of cormorant nesting colonies on plants and arthropods
Abstract : Seabirds concentrate large amounts of marine nutrients on their nesting islands. This nutrient input can have large consequences for island food webs and community structure. The high nutrient load may also cause runoff into surrounding waters and affect marine communities. READ MORE
