  1. 6. The power of action and knowledge in episodic memory for school-aged children

    Author : Farzaneh Badinlou; Reza Kormi-Nouri; Monika Knopf; Agneta Herlitz; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Episodic memory; action memory; enactment effect; subject-performed tasks; experimenter-performed tasks; verbal tasks; school-aged children; memory strategies; information processing;

    Abstract : Developmental and cognitive research suggests that there are age-related differ-ences in children’s episodic memory across school ages due to the development of knowledge, which in turn affects memory strategy use and information pro-cessing over time. However, there are controversial findings related to devel-opmental patterns and factors involved in children’s episodic memory function. READ MORE

  2. 7. Noise in the school environment : Memory and Annoyance

    Author : Eva Boman; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Noise; meaningful irrelevant speech; road traffic noise; memory; age group; school environment; pupils; teachers;

    Abstract : Objectives.The general objectives of this dissertationwere to examine the effects of acute exposure to meaningfulirrelevant speech and road traffic noise on memory performance,and to explore annoyance responses to noise exposure in theschool environment for pupils and teachers in different agegroups.Methods. 3. 8. Brain activity associated with episodic memory : similarities and differences between encoding and retrieval

    Author : Jonas Persson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Episodic memory; encoding; retrieval; positron emission tomography PET ; enactment; overlap; retrieval mode; retrieval success; novelty;

    Abstract : Understanding the mnemonic functions of the brain has been extensively facilitated by the development of functional neuroimaging techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The present thesis aims at investigating the neural mechanisms underlying memory for personally experienced events (episodic memory), using PET. READ MORE

  4. 9. Making Head or Tail of the Hippocampus : A Long-Axis Account of Episodic and Spatial Memory

    Author : Jonas Persson; Hedvig Söderlund; Tomas Furmark; Asaf Gilboa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hippocampus; fMRI; episodic memory; spatial memory; gender differences; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : While episodic and spatial memory both depend on the hippocampus, opposite gender differences in these functions suggest they are partly separate, with different neural underpinnings. The anterior and posterior hippocampus differ  in structure and whole-brain connectivity, and studies point to the posterior hippocampus being more involved in spatial memory while the anterior hippocampus’ role in episodic memory is less clear. 5. 10. Identity construction and memory after Subarachnoid Haemorrhage : Patients' accounts and relatives' and patients' statements in relation to memory tests

    Author : Elisabeth Berggren; Albert Westergren; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAH; Stroke; Pain; Memory; Decisions; Meaning-making; Identity-construction; memory tests; interviews; Medical sciences; Medicin;

    Abstract : Background: A Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a complex pathophysiological event and most patients have, before the onset, felt completely well. Being stricken by a SAH is a dramatic event, often followed by unconsciousness and memory problems. This may influence the adjustment to daily life. READ MORE
