21. Microstructure aspects of transition metal carbide thin films
Abstract : Transition metal carbides are important refractory materials used in many thin film applications. In this thesis, several transition metal carbides have been deposited using different chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and evaporation processes. In particular, the phase composition and microstructure of these carbide films have been studied. READ MORE

22. Interaction of C60 with transition metals for thin film applications
Abstract : The fullerene molecule C60 is known to undergo many different chemical reactions, including intercalation of alkali- and alkaline earth metals. Relatively little is still known about the reaction between transition metals and C60, and the objective of this thesis was therefore-to investigate the chemical interaction between C60 and some group IV-VI transition metals. 23. Studies of Novel Nanostructures by Cross- sectional Scanning Tunneling Microscopy
Abstract : This thesis presents structural and morphological studies of semiconductor nanostructures, namely quantum dots, nanowires and a dilute ferromagnetic semiconductor. These nanostructures are investigated on the atomic scale using cross-sectional scanning tunneling microscopy (XSTM). READ MORE

24. Carbide and MAX-Phase Engineering by Thin Film Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis reports on the development of low-temperature processes for transition metal carbide and MAX-phase thin film growth. Magnetron sputtering and evaporation, far from thermodynamical equilibrium, have been utilised to engineer the properties of the films by physical and chemical control. READ MORE

25. Nanowire Heterostructures- Growth, Characterization and Optical Physics
Abstract : This thesis describes growth, processing, characterization and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy of nanowire heterostructures. The nanowires were made of III-V semiconductor materials and were produced by Au-particle assisted growth. READ MORE
