  1. 21. Synthesis and Rearrangement of Epoxy Sugars

    Author : Fritiof Pontén; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; crown ether; silica; Intramoleculaf Diels-Alder reaction; radical allylation; allyl sulfone; sugar epoxide; allyl sulfide; ring-contraction; C-glycoside; a; IMDAF; b-unsaturated aldehyde;

    Abstract : Ring-Contraction of sugar-derived epoxy alcohols, functionalised in position 1 and 6, by treatment with lithium bromide and N, N, N', N'-tetramethylurea in refluxing toluene gave enantiomerically pure a,b-unsaturated aldehydes of furanosides. O-Glycosidic epoxy alcohols gave only one, easily purified, aldehyde in approximately 30-60% yield depending on the substitution pattern. READ MORE

  2. 22. Synthesis of O-linked Carbasugar Analogues of Galactofuranosides and N-linked Neodisaccharides

    Author : Jens Frigell; Ian Cumpstey; George Fleet; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbasugar; galactofuranose; mycobacterium; tuberculosis; ring-closing metathesis; GlfT2; galactan; epoxide-opening; pseudodisaccharide; etherification; regioselective; carbohydrate; carbocycles; glycomimetics; glucosidase; neodisaccharides; Mitsunobu; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis, carbohydrate mimicry is investigated through the syntheses of carbohydrate analogues and evaluation of their inhibitory effects on carbohydrate-processing enzymes. Galactofuranosides are interesting structures because they are common motifs in pathogenic microorganisms but not found in mammals. M. READ MORE

  4. 24. Allylic alcohols and aziridines from alkenes : Studies in asymmetric catalysis

    Author : Mikael J. Södergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Enantioselective; allylic alcohols; epoxide rearrangement; lithium amides; desymmetrization; kinetic resolution; allylic oxidation; alkenes; aziridination; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The development of methodology for asymmetric catalytic transformation of alkenederivatives is summarized. The studies concern the [a] Cu(I)-catalyzed allylic oxidation,[b] isomerization of epoxides to allyl alcohols, and [c] Cu(I)-catalyzed alkeneaziridination, respectively.[a] The preparation of exo-2-azabicyclo[2.2. 5. 25. Quantum Chemical Modeling of Asymmetric Enzymatic Reactions

    Author : Maria E. S. Lind; Fahmi Professor; Rajeev Prabhakar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biocatalysis; enantioselectivity; density functional theory; B3LYP; enzyme; hydrolysis; decarboxylation; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Computational methods are very useful tools in the study of enzymatic reactions, as they can provide a detailed understanding of reaction mechanisms and the sources of various selectivities. In this thesis, density functional theory has been employed to examine four different enzymes of potential importance for biocatalytic applications. READ MORE
