11. Window-based congestion control : Modeling, analysis and design
Abstract : This thesis presents a model for the ACK-clock inner loop, common to virtually all Internet congestion control protocols, and analyzes the stability properties of this inner loop, as well as the stability and fairness properties of several window update mechanisms built on top of the ACK-clock. Aided by the model for the inner-loop, two new congestion control mechanisms are constructed, for wired and wireless networks. READ MORE

12. Decentralized Hypothesis Testing in Sensor Networks
Abstract : Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) play an important role in the future ofInternet of Things IoT systems, in which an entire physical infrastructurewill be coupled with communication and information technologies. Smartgrids, smart homes, and intelligent transportation systems are examples ofinfrastructure that will be connected with sensors for intelligent monitoringand management. READ MORE

13. Multi-level modulation formats for high-speed optical transmission systems
Abstract : Over the past several years, the use of multi-level modulation formats has enabledsignificant improvements in the field of optical fiber communication, particularlyin terms of per-channel bit-rate (i.e., line-rate) and spectral efficiency (SE), byencoding multiple bits per symbol. 14. Preferential Coding for Mobile Multimedia Services
Abstract : Different parts of source encoded multimedia streams such as those associated with standard image or video formats possess different levels of importance with respect to their contribution to the quality of the reconstructed image or video. This unequal importance among data within a codestream gives rise to preferential treatment of the more significant parts of the codestream compared to the less important parts. READ MORE

15. On Coherent and Non-coherent Receiver Structures for Impulse Radio UWB Systems
Abstract : The demand and growth of short-range wireless communications has been tremendous in the past few years for a diverse range of applications. There is significant interest in ultra wideband (UWB) as a physical layer technology for both high-data-rate (HDR), and low power, low-data-rate (LDR) short-range communications. READ MORE
