  1. 1. EMG and strength in trunk and hip muscles

    Author : Eva A Andersson; Alf Thorstensson; Margareta Nordin; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurophysiology; Neurofysiologi; abdominal muscles; biomechanics; electromyography; erector spinae; iliacus; iliopsoas; hip flexor muscles; locomotion; motor control; normalization; posture; psoas; quadratus lumborum; rehabilitation; running; sit-ups; strength; training exercises; u;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study the myouelectric activity of all major muscles involved in the movements and stabilization of the trunk, pelvis and hips during training exercises, postures, motor tasks, maximal strength performance and locomotion. By use of ultra-sound, EMG electrodes could be guided safely and accurately into muscles situated even close to the spinal column, such as psoas, quadratus lumborum and deep parts of erector spinae. 2. 2. Lumbar muscle fatigue and recovery : evaluation of electromyography in patients with long-term low-back pain and in healthy subjects

    Author : Britt Elfving; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Disability; electromyography; exponential; force level; gender; healthy subjects; interelectrode distance; low-back pain; erector spinae; maximal voluntary contraction; muscle fatigue; recovery; reliability; validity.;

    Abstract : Background: Lumbar muscle function is considered to be an important component of longterm low- back pain. The change in the median frequency of the power spectrum of the electromyographic (EMG) signal is commonly used to estimate muscle fatigue. READ MORE

  3. 3. Neuronal networks involved in low back pain; experimental studies

    Author : Elin Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; low back pain; disc herniation; pyramidal tract; reticulospinal tract; longissimus muscle; nucleus pulposus; VPL; thalamus; rat; cat;

    Abstract : Low back pain is a common cause of disability, with a lifetime prevalence of up to 80%. A lumbar disc herniation, involving a bulging disc and/or leakage of the intervertebral disc’s nucleus pulposus, may be a possible cause of back and sciatic pain. Low back pain has also been associated with dysfunctional control of the paraspinal muscles. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biomechanics of back extension torque production about the lumbar spine

    Author : Karl Daggfeldt; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Medicin Teknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to develop a realistic mechanical description of lumbar back extension torque production. Such a description is desirable for understanding how back extension torque is generated as well as how the spine and surrounding structures are loaded during back extension tasks. READ MORE

  5. 5. Seated postural reactions to mechanical shocks : laboratory studies with relevance for risk assessment and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders among drivers

    Author : Tobias Stenlund; Börje Rehn; Ronnie Lundström; Ola Lindroos; Fredrik Öhberg; Rolf Moe-Nilssen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Postural balance; Posture; Electromyography; Musculoskeletal pain; Whole-body vibration; Reliability; Kinematics; Biomechanics; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Abstract : Professional drivers of off-road vehicles, driving on irregular terrain such as in forestry, agriculture and mining, are exposed to whole-body vibration and mechanical shocks. These driver groups have reported severe musculoskeletal problems in the spine, but the association to seated postural reactions is not fully understood. READ MORE
