  1. 1. Advanced silicon photoelectrodes for water splitting devices : design, preparation and functional characterization by photo-electrochemistry and high-energy X-ray spectroscopy

    Author : Anurag Y. Kawde; Johannes Messinger; Pieter Glatzel; Thomas Jaramillo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photoelectrochemical cell; photoelectrodes; solar-water splitting; artificial photosynthesis; X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy;

    Abstract : For the last century, mankind has been hugely dependent on fossil fuels to meet its energy needs. Harnessing energy from fossil fuels led to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases such as CO2 are a major contributor to global warming. READ MORE

  2. 2. X-Ray Diagnostics in Combustion - Study of Particle Formation in Flames Using Combined Small- and Wide-Angle X-Ray Scattering

    Author : Linda Vallenhag; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; soot particles; WAXS; X-ray scattering; SAXS; combustion; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Vallenhag;

    Abstract : In the thesis work, two X-ray scattering techniques, small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS) were combined to study particle formation in-situ and non-intrusively in ethylene laboratory flames. Combining these two techniques enabled information concerning the size and concentration as well as the subnanometer structure of the nanoparticles within the 1–100 nm range there to be obtained. 3. 3. Endoglucanase and Mannanase from Blue Mussel, Mytilus edulis: Purification, Characterization, Gene and Three Dimensional Structure

    Author : Bingze Xu; Folke Tjerneld; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; Surface Biotechnology; ytbioteknik;

    Abstract : Two polysaccharide-degrading enzymes (endo-1,4-D-glucanase and β-mannanase) from blue mussel, Mytilus edulis, have been purified to homogeneity using a combination of several chromatographic steps. Each enzyme has been characterized with regard to its molecular weight, isoelectric point, pH and temperature stability, pH and temperature optimum and substrate specificity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Toward Creating a Coherent, Next-Generation Light Source with special emphasis on nonlinear harmonic generation in single-pass, high-gain free-electron lasers

    Author : Sandra G. Biedron; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Visible and Ultraviolet Sources; Intense Particle Beams and Radiation Sources; Frequency Conversion; Free-Electron Lasers; Harmonic Generation; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : There is a strong desire for short wavelength (~1 Å), short pulsewidth (.... READ MORE

  5. 5. X-Ray Investigations of the Liquid-Liquid Critical Point Hypothesis in Supercooled Water

    Author : Alexander Späh; Anders Nilsson; Martin Meedom Nielsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water; supercooled water; x-ray scattering; free electron x-ray laser; liquid-liquid phase transition; liquid-liquid critical point; x-ray speckle visibility spectroscopy; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents experimental x-ray scattering studies on supercooled liquid water. A liquid-liquid transition between two structurally distinct configurations has been found in deeply supercooled water, indicating the existence of a liquid- liquid critical point. READ MORE
