  1. 1. Cancer Risk Assessment of Glycidol : Evaluation of a Multiplicative Risk Model for Genotoxic Compounds

    Author : Jenny Aasa; Margareta Törnqvist; Elaine M. Faustman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glycidol; 3-monochloropropane-1; 2-diol 3-MCPD ; genotoxicity; mutations; micronuclei; hemoglobin adducts; in vivo dose; multiplicative risk model; cancer risk assessment; human cancer risk; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed to chemical compounds in everyday life, both from the environment and from endogenous processes. Some compounds constitute a risk for cancer development. One such compound is glycidol, which is genotoxic and an animal carcinogen. It is the model compound of this work, partly due to its presence in food. READ MORE

  2. 2. Uncertainty, variability and environmental risk analysis

    Author : Monika Filipsson; Tomas Öberg; Bo Bergbäck; Lars Rosén; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : Contaminated land; exposure assessment; exposure factors; risk analysis; risk perception; uncertainty; variability; probabilistic risk assessment; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : The negative effects of hazardous substances and possible measures that can be taken are evaluated in the environmental risk analysis process, consisting of risk assessment, risk communication and risk management. Uncertainty due to lack of knowledge and natural variability are always present in this process. READ MORE

  3. 3. Risk communication in multi-stakeholder disaster risk management systems : Insights and recommendations from the Swedish system

    Author : Lexin Lin; Avdelningen för Riskhantering och Samhällssäkerhet; []
    Keywords : multi-level DRM system; risk communication; Sweden; disaster risk management DRM ; risk assessment; communication challenges; ; multi-stakeholder;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of this thesis is to improve our understanding of how disaster risk management (DRM) systems function. Specifically, it aims to increase our knowledge about effective communication in a multi-stakeholder, multi-level DRM system, with a particular focus on the exchange of risk-related information for risk assessment. 4. 4. On Risk Prediction

    Author : Carl Lönnbark; Kurt Brännäs; Stefan Mittnik; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Finance; Time series; GARCH; Estimation error; Asymmetry; Supply and demand; Econometrics; Ekonometri; ekonometri; Econometrics;

    Abstract : This thesis comprises four papers concerning risk prediction. Paper [I] suggests a nonlinear and multivariate time series model framework that enables the study of simultaneity in returns and in volatilities, as well as asymmetric effects arising from shocks. READ MORE

  5. 5. Risk-Based Decision Model for Microbial Risk Mitigation in Drinking Water Systems

    Author : Viktor Bergion; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; drinking water; quantitative microbial risk assessment; cost-benefit analysis; health risk; contaminant fate and transport modelling; economic valuation of health effects; pathogen;

    Abstract : Microbial risks in drinking water systems can cause sporadic pathogenic infections and waterborne outbreaks resulting in large costs for society. In 2010 for example, around 27,000 persons were infected with Cryptosporidium in Östersund, Sweden. READ MORE
