  1. 11. Estrogen receptor expression in relation to pain modulation and transmission : experimental studies in rats

    Author : Åsa Amandusson; Anders Blomqvist; Kaj Fried; Ola Hermanson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; MEDICINE;

    Abstract : Estrogens have a remarkably wide range of actions in the mammalian brain. They not only play a pivotal role in reproductive behavior and sexual differentiation, but also contribute to e.g. thermoregulation, feeding, memory, neuronal survival and the perception of somatosensory stimuli. 2. 12. Endocrine modulators and sexual differentiation in Japanese quail : With emphasis on the neuroendocrine system

    Author : Krister Halldin; Ted Ebendal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Japanese quail; sexual behavior; endocrine disruption; sexual differentiation; estrogen; estrogen receptors; avian; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; ekotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Chemical disruption of the endocrine system in various animal species is currently attracting considerable interest, but avian models are not yet widely used in studying endocrine disturbances. This thesis shows the occurrence of alterations in sexual behavior and reproductive organs in adult Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) following embryonic exposure to estrogen-like chemicals. 3. 13. Malignant glioma : experimental studies with an estrogen-linked cytostatic

    Author : Eva von Schoultz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malignant glioma; meningioma; glioma cells; sex steroids; estramustine; nor-nitrogen mustard; estramustine- binding protein; DNA damage; cell membrane;

    Abstract : Malignant gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors in adults. Patients with these highly malignant tumors have an extremely poor prognosis. The situation with a highly proliferative tumor in a non-proliferating tissue should favor cytostatic treatment but so far the role of conventional chemotherapy has been adjunctive. READ MORE

  4. 14. Polymorphism in sex steroid-related genes. Effects on hormone levels and behavior

    Author : Lars Westberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex steroids; androgen receptor; estrogen receptor; progesterone receptor; polymorphism; genetics; association study; prolactin; personality; premenstrual dysphoric disorder; Parkinson s disease;

    Abstract : Genetic factors are important for variations between individuals with respect to most humantraits and diseases. Sex steroids are of profound importance for reproduction, metabolism,cardiovascular function and bone formation. They are potent regulators of their ownsynthesis as well as of that of other hormones, including prolactin. READ MORE
