  1. 1. Regulation of Ovarian Aromatase: Studies by Aromatase Assays in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Dmitrijus Kirilovas; Mats Brännström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; aromatase; human; granulosa cells; 11C-vorozole; active site; allosteric configuration; in vitro; in vivo; PET; androgens; rat; estrous cycle.; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Abstract : An in vitro method was developed for measuring aromatase, based on binding of competitive aromatase inhibitor [11C]vorozole to the active site of the enzyme. [11C]Vorozole displayed high, specific binding in vitro to human placenta and human granulosa cells (GC), both fresh and frozen/thawed cells, provided correct procedures were used. READ MORE

  2. 2. New sensitive and specific methods for sex steroid measurements in rodent serum and tissues

    Author : Maria E. Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex steroids; mass spectrometry; rodents;

    Abstract : Accurate measurement of sex steroids (androgens, estrogens, and progesterone) is essential in research and clinical settings for common diseases including osteoporosis, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Sex steroids are not only produced in the gonads and adrenals but may also be locally synthesized in peripheral target tissues. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in the mouse striatum

    Author : Sietske Schotanus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The striatum is the major input nucleus of the basal ganglia and can be subdivided into a dorsal part and a ventral part that is also named nucleus accumbens (NAc). 4. 4. Sex differences in acute and chronic experimental pain models

    Author : Lili Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : estrogen;

    Abstract : Sex differences in response to noxious stimuli and in the development of chronic pain have been increasingly recognized and studied in humans and laboratory animals. In the clinic, extensive evidence indicates that there are a large number of chronic pain conditions that have higher prevalence in women than in men and some of these conditions, such as migraine and temporomandibular pain disorder, are also affected by the menstrual cycle. 5. 5. A comparative study of estrogen receptors a and b in the female reproductive tract

    Author : Hong Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Estrogens have a pronounced influence on the function of the female reproductive system. The regulation of biological processes by estrogens is mediated via specific intracellular receptors (ERs), ERalpha and ERbeta, which function as regulators of transcriptional activity. READ MORE
