1. Fabrication of Low-Dimensional Structures in III-V Semiconductors
Abstract : The thesis presents studies on the processing technology and the characterization of nanometer-sized and low-dimensional structures in III-V semiconductors. Two major approaches are described: 1) the combination of aerosol technology and plasma etching for the fabrication of quantum dots (QDs) in InP-based materials and 2) the use of high-resolution electron beam lithography and plasma or wet chemical etching to make quantum well wires (QWWs) in both GaAs and InP-based structures. 2. Optical Detection Using Computer Screen Photo-assisted Techniques and Ellipsometry
Abstract : Two main subjects, ellipsometry and computer screen photo-assisted techniques (CSPT), form the main line in this thesis. Ellipsometry is an optical technique based on the detection of polarization changes of light upon interaction with a sample. READ MORE

3. Silicon Nanopore Arrays : Fabrication and Applications for DNA Sensing
Abstract : Nanopore biomolecule sensing and sequencing has emerged as a simple but powerful tool for single molecule studies over the past two decades. By elec- trophoretically driving single molecules through a nanometer-sized pore, often sitting in an insulating membrane that separates two buffer solutions, ionic current blockades can be detected to reveal rich information of the molecules, such as DNA length, protein size and conformation, even nucleic acid se- quence. 4. Elastic interconnection micro contact stuctures-manufacture and characterisation
Abstract : ...The task that was put to the author of this thesis was to find solutions for manufacturing of single elastic micro bump contacts as well as complete elastic sockets and interconnections down to the carrier substrate. READ MORE

5. Electrochemically etched pore arrays in silicon for X-ray imaging detectors
Abstract : Digital devices have now been introduced in many X-ray imaging applications, replacing slowly traditional photographic films. These devices are preferred as they offer real time imaging, easy handling and fast treatment of the images. READ MORE
