  1. 6. Frame Analysis in Environmental Conflicts : The case of ethanol production in Brazil

    Author : Ester Galli; Ronald Wennersten; Tom Dwyer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brazil; biodiversity; biofuel; CO2 emissions; environmental conflict; ethanol; frame; frame analysis; land use change; sugarcane; sugarcane cutters; sustainable energy;

    Abstract : Governments and policy-makers are currently dealing with some key issues as energy security in countries dependent on oil imports; global economic development, including increased food production; and controlling global climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. The perception that biofuel could solve these challenges simultaneously has led to the implementation of policy and regulatory mechanisms on the mandatory use of biofuels, resulting in a sharp increase in biofuel production and consumption. 2. 7. Ethanol from lignocellulose : Alkali detoxification of dilute-acid spruce hydrolysates

    Author : Björn Alriksson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Detoxification of dilute-acid lignocellulose hydrolysates by treatment with Ca(OH)2 (overliming) efficiently improves the production of fuel ethanol, but is associated with drawbacks like sugar degradation and CaSO4 precipitation. In factorial designed experiments, in which pH and temperature were varied, dilute-acid spruce hydrolysates were treated with Ca(OH)2, NH4OH or NaOH. READ MORE

  4. 9. Industrial Bioprocess Developments for Biogas and Ethanol Production

    Author : Karthik Rajendran; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biogas; ethanol; process design; techno-economic analysis; simulation; modeling; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Current biofuels face a noteworthy misfortune on commercialization because of its economiccomparison with low-cost fuel from the oil reserves. To compete with gasoline as a fuel, thebiofuels need to be economically feasible and demonstrated on a large-scale. READ MORE

  5. 10. Techno-economic evaluation of integrated lignocellulosic ethanol production

    Abstract : Sweden has claimed that it wants to have a fossil-free vehicle fleet in 2030 as a milestone of its ambitious goal for 2050 to be a country with a sustainable and resource-efficient energy supply without any net GHG emissions. Production of bioethanol from plant materials is one potential method of meeting this goal. READ MORE
