  1. 1. Pharmacological Studies of CHS 828 and Etoposide Induced Tumour Cell Death

    Author : Petra Martinsson; Stig Linder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Cancer chemotherapy; cell death; caspase; etoposide; CHS 828; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Antitumour properties of the cyanoguanidine CHS 828 and analogues were discovered in 1997. CHS 828 is presently in clinical phase I/II trials. This thesis encompasses in vitro studies of the kinetics and mode of cell death induced in the human cell line U-937 GTB, by CHS 828 and the standard antitumour drug etoposide. READ MORE

  2. 2. Epidemiological and clinical aspects of T-cell lymphoma

    Author : Henrik Cederleuf; Medicinsk onkologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; population-based; peripheral T-cell lymphoma; Anaplastic large cell lymphoma; angioimmunoblastic; elderly; ASCT; comorbidity; prognostic factors; follow-up; limited stage; etoposide; CHOP; overall survival; radiotherapy;

    Abstract : T-cell lymphoma (TCL) is a rare group of malignancies and one of the important aims in this thesis has been to broaden the general knowledge of TCL with descriptive patient data. Main focus has been to examine prognosticfactors for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), and to evaluate different treatment approaches and follow-up (FU) after treatment. 3. 3. Current Medical Treatment of Endocrine Pancreatic Tumors and Future Aspects

    Author : Marie-Louise Fjällskog; Morten Vatn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; pancreatic tumors; somatostatin analogs; cisplatin; etoposide; somatostatin receptors; immunohistochemistry; tyrosine kinase receptors; platelet-derived growth factors receptors PDGFRs ; c-kit; epidermal growth factor receptor EGFR ; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; alfa-interferon; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : We treated 16 patients with somatostatin analogs combined with α-interferon and achieved a biochemical and/or radiological response in 56% (median duration 22 months). We consider this treatment a good alternative for patients who fail during chemotherapy or who do not want to/cannot receive cytotoxic drugs. READ MORE

  5. 5. Repair of DNA double-stranded breaks in human cells

    Author : Susanne Nyström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; DNA-PK; DNA double-stranded break; DSB; DNA single-stranded break; SSB; DNA damage; ionizing radiation; IR; DNA repair; calicheamicin gamma1; bleomycin; etoposide; topoisomerase II; radiotherapy; radiosensitizer; ATM;

    Abstract : DNA is continuously subjected to degradation. Therefore, our cells need to constantly repair its DNA to prevent mutations and in the long run cancer. In mammalian cells, when DNA is broken right off, a double-stranded break (DSB) is produced, and the ends are ligated by a process called non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ). READ MORE
