  1. 1. Synthesis and functionalization of ring-fused 2-pyridones : Targeting pili formation in E. coli

    Author : Nils Pemberton; Fredrik Almqvist; Oliver Kappe; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 2-pyridone; acylketene; antibacterial; biofilm inhibitor; Mannich; Micro-wave-assisted chemistry; peptidomimetic; virulence.; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes;

    Abstract : Bicyclic dihydrothiazolo fused 2-pyridones have been studied as a new class of antibacterial agents, termed pilicides, that target the formation of adhesive bacterial surface organelles (pili) in pathogenic bacteria. Synthetic methods to further functionalize the bicyclic 2-pyridone scaffold have been developed in order to increase water-solubility and thereby facilitate biological evalua-tions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modeling and Control of Air-based Actuated Robots

    Author : Andreas Papadimitriou; George Nikolakopoulos; Matteo Fumagalli; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Robotics and Artificial Intelligence; Robotik och artificiell intelligens;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to advance and increase the quality of the field of maintenance and exploration with the use of air-based robotic platforms. The fields that will be addressed are focusing on: a) Identification of adhesion system of climbing robots, b) the control of adhesion level and motion of climbing robots, c) the path planning based on constraints posed from platforms’ mobility characteristics and sensor requirements and d) The attitude control of a morphing Micro Aerial Vehicle (MAV) during in-flight structural re-configurations. 3. 3. In vitro-solubility and supersaturation behavior of supersaturating drug delivery systems

    Author : Amani AlHayali; Sitaram P. Velaga; Sandra Klein; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health Science; Hälsovetenskap;

    Abstract : The development of new pharmaceutical products has been challenged by the growing number of poorly water-soluble drugs, which often lead to suboptimal bioavailability. Various approaches, such as the use of amor-phous solid dispersions and cocrystals, have been used to improve the solu-bility, and subsequent bioavailability, of these drug molecules. READ MORE

  4. 4. Integrated Community Energy Systems

    Author : Binod Prasad Koirala; Mehrdad Ghandari; Rudi A. Hakvoort; Reinier Van der Veen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Distributed energy resources; community energy; local energy systems; institutional design; smart grids; energy system integration; community engagement; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Energy systems across the globe are going through a radical transformation as a result of technological and institutional changes, depletion of fossil fuel resources, and climate change. Accordingly, local energy initiatives are emerging and increasing number of the business models are focusing on the end-users. READ MORE

    Abstract : In this thesis natural science is combined with environmental psychology in order to determine how deforestation and subsequent agricultural expansion in the Peruvian highland jungle has affected the natural environment and rural livelihoods. This region is part of one of the most biodiverse areas on Earth and is also exposed to high pressure from deforestation that threatens the ecosystems as well as the well-being of local populations.
