  1. 11. Disinformative and Uncertain Data in Global Hydrology : Challenges for Modelling and Regionalisation

    Author : Anna Kauffeldt; Sven Halldin; Allan Rodhe; Chong-Yu Xu; András Bárdossy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Data uncertainty; Discharge; Disinformative data; Evaporation; Flow-duration curve; Global hydrology; Neural networks; Numerical weather prediction; Precipitation; Quality control; Regionalisation; Ungauged basins; Water balance; Avdunstning; avrinningsområden utan vattenföringsdata; dataosäkerhet; desinformativa data; global hydrologi; kvalitetskontroll; nederbörd; neurala nät; numerisk vädermodell; regionalisering; varaktighetskurva; vattenbalans; vattenföring; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Water is essential for human well-being and healthy ecosystems, but population growth and changes in climate and land-use are putting increased stress on water resources in many regions. To ensure water security, knowledge about the spatiotemporal distribution of these resources is of great importance. READ MORE

  2. 12. Drying of Multicomponent Liquid Films

    Author : Fabio Luna; KTH; []
    Keywords : ternary mixture; falling film; diffusion equation; gas-phase control; liquid-phase control; selectivity; stability analysis; polymeric solution; evaporation; azeotrope; batch drying; continuous drying;

    Abstract : The convective drying of thin layers of multicomponentliquid mixtures into an inert gas, and the influence ofdifferent process controlling mechanisms on drying selectivityis studied. Drying experiments under gas-phase-controlledconditions are performed by low intensity evaporation, fromfree liquid surfaces, of ternary mixtures without non-volatilesolutes. READ MORE

  3. 13. Towards Single Molecule Imaging - Understanding Structural Transitions Using Ultrafast X-ray Sources and Computer Simulations

    Author : Carl Caleman; Janos Hajdu; Richard Neutze; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular biophysics; XFEL; Ultrafast Melting; InSb; Molecular Dynamics; Water Cluster; Evaporation; Secondary Electron; Photo-cathode; Electron Scattering; Energy Loss Function; Single Particle Imaging; X-ray Diffraction; Water; Ice; KI; CsI; Molekylär biofysik;

    Abstract : X-ray lasers bring us into a new world in photon science by delivering extraordinarily intense beams of x-rays in very short bursts that can be more than ten billion times brighter than pulses from other x-ray sources. These lasers find applications in sciences ranging from astrophysics to structural biology, and could allow us to obtain images of single macromolecules when these are injected into the x-ray beam. 4. 14. Transport Coefficients during Drying of Solids containing Multicomponent Mixtures

    Author : Rafael Gamero; Joaquín Martínez; Evangelos Tsotsas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; capillary; conduction; convection; diffusion; evaporation; heat transfer; hydraulic conductivity; liquid film; liquid transport; mass transfer; Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients; molar fluxes; phase equilibrium; temperature gradient; ternary mixture; thermodynamic factors; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This study investigated the transport coefficients involved in mass and heat transfer during the drying of a porous solid partially saturated with multicomponent mixtures.  It included the coefficients governing liquid transport through the solid, the matrix of multicomponent diffusion coefficients in the liquid phase, and the effective thermal conductivity. 5. 15. Humidification Processes in Gas Turbine Cycles

    Author : Marcus Thern; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; Energiforskning; Energy research; HAT; Biomass; Biofuel; Humidification; Evaporation; Evaporative gas turbine ; Humid air turbine ; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : The global climate change caused by emissions of greenhouse gases from combustion processes has been recognized as a continuously growing problem and much research focuses on improving the environmental performance of gas turbines. The potential of improving gas turbine component efficiencies has become smaller each decade and therefore, thermodynamic cycles have become more interesting for power producing units. READ MORE
