  1. 21. Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and potentials for application in fetal cell replacement therapy

    Author : Karina Liuba; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in utero hematopoietic cell transplantation; hematopoietic stem cell; multipotent progenitor; fetal therapy; heterotypic cell fusion;

    Abstract : Fetal cell replacement therapy or in utero hematopoietic cell transplantation (IUHCT) is proposed as a non-myeloablative alternative to bone marrow transplantation (BMT) for a number of inborn immunologic, hematologic and metabolic disorders. IUHCT represents the method through which variable amounts of natural or genetically modified hematopoietic cells can be transferred to the fetal recipient in hope of correcting the disorder and preventing postnatal permanent organ damage. 2. 22. Aortic Valve Replacement: The Influence of Prosthesis-Patient Mismatch for Left Ventricular Remodeling, Cardiac Function and Survival

    Author : Shahab Nozohoor; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prosthesis-Patient Mismatch; Left Ventricular Remodeling; Survival; Aortic valve replacement;

    Abstract : The best valve substitute for aortic valve replacement (AVR) in terms of hemodynamic performance, durability, incidence of complications, and survival remains the subject of much debate. It has been suggested that valve performance is influenced by the potentially modifiable variable prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM). READ MORE

  3. 23. Use of Healthcare, Perceived Health and Patient Satisfaction in Patients with Burns

    Author : Björn Wikehult; Mimmie Willebrand; Bengt Gerdin; Gun Nordström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Burns; health status; care utilisation; rehabilitation; personality traits; care experiences; patient satisfaction; Plastic surgery; Plastikkirurgi;

    Abstract : A severe burn is a trauma fraught with stress and pain and may change the entire course of life. This thesis focuses on care utilisation, care experiences and patient satisfaction after a severe burn. The patients studied were treated at the Burn Unit at Uppsala University Hospital between 1980 and 2006. READ MORE

  4. 24. Molecular genetics of lymphoid malignancies

    Author : Mats Merup; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Advances in molecular genetics during the last decade has made it possible to identify genetic lesions in malignant cells that are specific for disease entities with a common clinical presentation and prognosis. In chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) deletions in 13ql4 are the most frequently occurring abnormalities and deletions cluster around marker D13S319 suggesting that a tumor suppressor gene is located in this region. 5. 25. Observations of rare supernovae and their environments

    Author : Francesco Taddia; Jesper Sollerman; Maryam Modjaz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Supernova; stellar evolution; metallicity; circumstellar interaction; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : Supernovae (SNe) are the final stage in the life of massive stars. Their explosion unbinds the progenitor star revealing its inner layers. The SN ejecta interact with the circumstellar material (CSM), providing further information on the progenitor star. READ MORE
