  1. 1. Magnetism and Structure of Thin 3d Transition Metal Films : XMCD and EXAFS using Polarized Soft X-Rays

    Author : Anders Hahlin; Dimitri Arvanitis; Olof Karis; Claus Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; thin film; xmcd; exafs; anisotropy; coherence; circular polarization; magnetism; Fe; Co; Ag; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In this Thesis the magnetic and structural properties of thin epitaxial Fe, Co, and Ni films are discussed. Some of the in-situ prepared samples were used to characterize the degree of circular polarization of the newly installed beamline D1011 at MAX-lab. READ MORE

  2. 2. X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy on Nano-Magnet Arrays and Thin Films : Magnetism and Structure

    Author : Andreas Persson; Dimitri Arvanitis; Cormac McGuinness; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self organization; nano-magnet; xmcd; exafs; peem; magnetism; Surfaces and interfaces; Ytor och mellanytor; Magnetism; Magnetism; Materiefysik; Physics of Matter;

    Abstract : The magnetic and structural properties of nano magnet arrays and ferromagnetic thin films are investigated. Circular x-rays are used and extensive use is made in this Thesis of the X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) technique. By means of the XMCD magneto-optic sum rules the values of the orbital and spin moments are determined. READ MORE

  3. 3. Compounds with Non-Buttressed Metal-Metal Bond between Platinum and Thallium. Model Systems for Photoinduced Two-Electron-Transfer

    Author : Mikhail Maliarik; KTH; []
    Keywords : thallium; platinum; cyanide; metal-metal bond; non-buttressed; heterometallic; photoinduced; electron transfer; redox reaction; NMR; chemical shift; spin-spin coupling constant; Raman; EXAFS; X-ray diffraction; equilibrium; oxidation state; oxidative;

    Abstract : A new family of oligonuclear cyano compounds incorporatingtransition (Pt) and main group (Tl) metals bound with anon-buttressed Pt-Tl bond was synthesised in aqueous solution.The metal-metal linkage is formed in the reaction betweenplatinum and thallium in their stable oxidation forms, Pt(II)and Tl(III), orvice versa: Pt(IV) and Tl(I). 4. 4. Exploring the Magnetism of Ultra Thin 3d Transition Metal Films

    Author : Cecilia Andersson; Olof Karis; Dimitri Arvanitis; Chi-Chang Kao; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; thin film; xmcd; xrms; exafs; anisotropy; magnetism; Fe; Ni; Co; Ag; Cu; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the magnetic and structural properties of ultra-thin 3d transition metals films have been investigated, in particular Fe, Ni and Co films. X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) has provided element specific spin (ms ) and orbital (ml ) moments per atom by utilizing the magneto optic sum-rules. READ MORE

    Author : Madeleine Ramstedt; Staffan Sjöberg; Per Persson; Lars Lövgren; Steven A. Banwart; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; manganite; γ-MnOOH; mineral surface; acid-base properties; adsorption; Cd II ; N- phosphonomethyl glycine; glyphosate; PMG; surface complex; dissolution; disproportionation; XPS; EXAFS; infrared spectroscopy; SEM; AFM; potentiometry; electrophoresis; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The chemistry of mineral surfaces is of great importance in many different areas including natural processes occurring in oceans, rivers, lakes and soils. Manganese (hydr)oxides are one important group to these natural processes, and the thermodynamically most stable trivalent manganese (hydr)oxide, manganit (γ-MnOOH), is studied in this thesis.
