  1. 1. Effects of Macromolecular Crowding on Protein Folding - in-vitro equilibrium and kinetic studies on selected model systems

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Alexander Christiansen; Umeå universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein Folding; macromolecular crowding; excluded volume; spectroscopy; stopped-flow; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Protein folding is the process during which an extended and unstructured polypeptide converts to its compact folded structure that is most often the functional state. The process has been characterized extensively in dilute buffer in-vitro during the last decades but the actual biological place for this process is the inside of living cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. Polyelectrolytes Bottle-Brush Architectures and Association with Surfactants

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Ali Naderi; KTH.; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyelectrolyte; Surfactant; Bottle-Brush Polyelectrolyte; Comb Polyelectrolyte; Non-Equilibrium State; Polymer Architecture; Adsorption; Desorption; Association; Excluded Volume; Light Scattering; SFA; AFM; QCM-D; Turbidimeter; Mica; Silica; Surface Forces; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Physical chemistry Surface and colloid chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Fysikalisk kemi Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis has the dual purpose of raising awareness of the importance of the mixing protocol on the end products of polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant systems, and to contribute to a better understanding of the properties of bottle-brush polyelectrolytes when adsorbed onto interfaces.In the first part of this thesis work, the effects of the mixing protocol and the mixing procedure on formed polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant aggregates were investigated. 3. 3. Stochastic Simulation of Multiscale Reaction-Diffusion Models via First Exit Times

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Lina Meinecke; Uppsala universitet.; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computational systems biology; diffusion; first exit times; unstructured meshes; reaction-diffusion master equation; macromolecular crowding; excluded volume effects; finite element method; backward analysis; stochastic simulation; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Mathematical models are important tools in systems biology, since the regulatory networks in biological cells are too complicated to understand by biological experiments alone. Analytical solutions can be derived only for the simplest models and numerical simulations are necessary in most cases to evaluate the models and their properties and to compare them with measured data. 4. 4. Alternative Methods for Assessment of Split Renal Function

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Henrik Björkman; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : Radiology; Split renal function; Live kidney donor; CT; Renography; Dynamic MRI; Renal volume; Respiratory triggering; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Living kidney donation is a clinical situation with unique features in the sense that healthy individuals voluntarily expose themselves to certain risks and inconveniences. Therefore, eliminating as much of the associated discomfort as possible is crucial. READ MORE

  5. 5. Polymer Gels: Modeling the Swelling Behavior

    University dissertation from Physical Chemistry 1, Lund University

    Author : Stefanie Schneider; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2003]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Polymerteknik; biopolymers; Polymer technology; binding isotherms; polyelectrolyte-surfactant interactions; discontinuous volume transition; gel swelling; Monte Carlo simulation; polyelectrolyte gels;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Som man kan se av titeln handlar den här avhandlingen om polyelektrolytgeler. Vad är nu polyelektrolyter och vad är geler? Och vad är de bra till? Polymerer Polymerer är långa molekylkedjor, som förekommer i naturen men som också kan vara gjorda av människan. READ MORE
