  1. 6. Efficient Execution Paradigms for Parallel Heterogeneous Architectures

    Author : Konstantinos Koukos; Stefanos Kaxiras; Margaret Martonosi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Decoupled Execution; Performance; Energy; DVFS; Compiler Optimizations; Heterogeneous Coherence; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis proposes novel, efficient execution-paradigms for parallel heterogeneous architectures. The end of Dennard scaling is threatening the effectiveness of DVFS in future nodes; therefore, new execution paradigms are required to exploit the non-linear relationship between performance and energy efficiency of memory-bound application-regions. 2. 7. Robust execution of robot task-plans : a knowledge-based approach

    Author : Abdelbaki Bouguerra; Lars Karlsson; Alessandro Saffiotti; Froduald Kabanza; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Autonomous mobile robots; plan execution and monitoring; semantic knowledge; cognitive robotics.; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Computer and Systems Science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Autonomous mobile robots are being developed with the aim of accomplishing complex tasks in different environments, including human habitats as well as less friendly places, such as distant planets and underwater regions. A major challenge faced by such robots is to make sure that their actions are executed correctly and reliably, despite the dynamics and the uncertainty inherent in their working space. READ MORE

  3. 8. Model-free execution monitoring in behavior-based mobile robotics

    Author : Ola Pettersson; Alessandro Saffiotti; Lars Karlsson; Joachim Hertzberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datavetenskap; mobile robotics; execution monitoring; fault detection and isolation; diagnosis; data- och systemvetenskap; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Computer and Systems Science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : In the near future, autonomous mobile robots are expected to assist us by performing service tasks in many different areas, including transportation, cleaning, mining, or agriculture. In order to manage these tasks in a changing and partially unpredictable environment, without the help of humans, the robot must have the ability to plan its actions and to execute them robustly and in a safe way. 4. 9. Executions : Power and Expression in Networked and Computational Media

    Author : Eric Snodgrass; Susan Kozel; Wendy Hui Kyong Chun; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; execution; media studies; software studies; history of technology; computation; Media Technology; Medieteknik;

    Abstract : This research looks at questions of power and expression as they are composed in various ways within networked and computationally-informed situations of the present. Drawing from the term as it is originally invoked in practices of computing, the research puts forward execution as a central conceptual framework for its investigations. READ MORE

  5. 10. Unwrapping Cobol : Lessons in Crisis Computing

    Author : Linda Hilfling Ritasdatter; Susan Kozel; Maria Hellström Reimer; Florian Cramer; Nishant Shah; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : Crisis; Execution; Maintenance; Cobol; Automation; Global Flows; Y2K; Human Factor; Outsourcing; Development; Legacy Systems; Programming Languages; History of Computing; HCI; Software Wrapping; Postcolonial Studies; Diffraction; Broken world thinking; Grace Hopper; Media Archaeology; Debugging; Zombie Media; Obsolescence; Technological Development; Unsettling Ontologies; Fourth Industrial Revolution; Artificial Intelligence; Interaktionsdesign; Interaktionsdesign;

    Abstract : By engaging with COBOL, a detested and would-be obsolete programming language, the dark sides of automation are examined in this thesis: hidden workforces and computational infrastructures that are, in reality, central to the execution and maintenance of global economic and informational flows. Frictions within these flows are made more visible in moments of crisis when asymmetrical power structures are surfaced, as demonstrated in an analysis of the infamous Y2K Bug, its connection to the outsourcing boom in India and the legacy of COBOL.
