  1. 1. Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction : Prevalence, laryngeal findings and evaluation of treatment

    Author : Katarina Norlander; Leif Nordang; Malin Svensson; Riitta Möller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exercise; laryngeal obstruction; bronchoconstriction; CLE-score; EILOMEA;

    Abstract : Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) is one of many different causes for adolescents to experience dyspnoea during exercise. Objective exercise-testing with continuous video laryngoscopy is crucial for a correct diagnosis since it is difficult to differentiate EILO from other exercise related conditions in the airways only on the symptomatology. 2. 2. Lung function in relation to exercise capacity in health and disease

    Author : Amir Farkhooy; Andrei Malinovschi; Christer Janson; Hans Hedenström; Harrpa Arnardottir; Ann Ekberg Jansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exercise capacity; Exercise test; Lung function; Spirometri; Diffusion capacity; COPD; Pulmonary hypertension; Clinical Physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Exercise capacity (EC) is widely recognized as a strong and independent predictor of mortality and disease progression in various diseases, including cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. Furthermore, it is generally accepted that exercise capacity in healthy individuals and in patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases is mainly limited by the maximum cardiac output. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exercise induced breathing problems in adolescents

    Author : Henrik Johansson; Margareta Emtner; Christer Janson; Kai-Håkon Carlsen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Experiencing respiratory symptoms in conjunction with exercise is common in children and adolescents and can have a negative impact on daily life. The aim of the thesis was to estimate the prevalence of exercise-induced dyspnoea, exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) and exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (E-ILO) in a general adolescent population, and to explore factors associated with EIB. 4. 4. EXPLORING MOTIVATIONAL MECHANISMS IN EXERCISE BEHAVIOUR : Applying Self-determination theory in a person-centred approach

    Author : Karin Anna Weman-Josefsson; Magnus Lindwall; Boo Johansson; Jesper Lundgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; autonomy; competence; exercise; intervention; mediation; relatedness; autonomy; competence; exercise; intervention; mediation; relatedness;

    Abstract : Involvement in physical activity (PA) and exercise behaviour is multifaceted and depends on bidirectional correlations between multiple factors; one avenue to increase the understanding of sustainable exercise behaviours would be to employ a motivational perspective. In this thesis, this was done by placing the primary focus on Self-determination theory (SDT) as a person-centred approach to study the motivational mechanisms believed to impact exercise behaviour based on the SDT process model. Abstract : Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) includes a wide range of malformations, from simple lesions, e.g. ventricular septal defect, that resolve spontaneously, to severe lesions, e.g. READ MORE
