  1. 1. Design and optimization of parallel haptic devices : Design methodology and experimental evaluation

    Author : Suleman Khan; Kjell Andersson; Jan Wikander; Ölvander Johan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Medical simulation; 6-DOF haptic devices; design methodology.; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : The simulation of surgical procedures, in the case of hard tissues such as bone or teeth milling, using a haptic milling surgery simulator requires a haptic device which can provide high stiffness and transparency. To mimic a real milling process of hard tissue, such as for example creating a narrow channel or cavity, the simulator needs to provide force/torque feedback in 5–6 degrees of freedom (DOF). 2. 2. What contributes to human body burdens of halogenated flame retardants? : An experimental approach

    Author : Joo Hui Tay; Cynthia de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Jochen Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; halogenated flame retardants; air; dust; hand wipes; duplicate diet; serum; human exposure; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Flame retardants (FRs) are chemicals added to a broad range of consumer products such as textiles, electrical and electronic equipment, furniture and building material to meet flammability requirements. Most of these chemicals are additives that can continuously leach out from the applied products during usage. READ MORE

  3. 3. Atelectasis and gas exchange impairment after cardiopulmonary bypass : An experimental study

    Author : Lennart Magnusson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Lung: cardiopulmonary bypass; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : Despite of the improvement in management and equipment for cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), postoperative pulmonary complications remain a major problem after cardiac surgery. In the present thesis, using a pig model, atelectasis has been tested as a cause of the increase in intrapulmonary shunt commonly seen after CPB. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental approaches to powder filling and lubrication in powder die pressing

    Author : Erik Hjortsberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; XPS; friction; die filling; interference microscopy; density variations; lubrication; compaction; experimental equipment; tribology; powder metallurgy;

    Abstract : There is a continuous need to improve the mechanical properties of steel parts produced through powder metallurgy in order to ensure the market growth of this sector and competitiveness against alternative production techniques. One of the more promising routes able to achieve this is to aim for components with higher densities. READ MORE

  5. 5. Steam Explosion of Wood

    Author : Muhammad Muzamal; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; finite element model; Steam explosion; biorefinery; pretreatment; wood;

    Abstract : The rising price of petroleum and environmental concerns regarding CO2 emissions has increased interest in alternative renewable resources. Biomass can be considered as an excellent alternative raw material. A biorefinery uses biomass and produces fuel, energy and value-added chemicals. READ MORE
