  1. 1. Transmission Electron Microscopy for Characterization of Structures, Interfaces and Magnetic Moments in Magnetic Thin Films and Multilayers

    Author : Hans Lidbaum; Klaus Leifer; Peter Svedlindh; Josef Zweck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transmission electron microscopy; TEM; magnetism; multilayer; superlattice; thin films; amorphous metals; electron energy-loss magnetic circular dichroism; EMCD; electron diffraction; Magnetism; Magnetism; Surfaces and interfaces; Ytor och mellanytor; Physics; Fysik; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik; Materiefysik; Physics of Matter;

    Abstract : Structural characterization is essential for the understanding of the magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers. In this thesis, both crystalline and amorphous thin films and multilayers were analyzed utilizing transmission electron microscopy (TEM). READ MORE

  2. 2. Topological excitations in field theory models of superconductivity and magnetism

    Author : Philipp Rybakov; Egor Babaev; Maxim Mostovoy; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Physics; Teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Topological excitations are subjects of intensive studies in physics and mathematics. In solid-state and soft matter physics, topological excitations can largely determine the thermodynamic and electromagnetic properties of materials, while in high energy physics they were theorized as particles. 3. 3. Light for a brighter morrow : paving the way for sustainable light-emitting devices

    Author : Petter Lundberg; Ludvig Edman; Thomas Wågberg; Magnus Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Artificial Light; Organic Electronics; Photophysics; Light-emitting Electrochemical Cells; Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence; Host-Guest; Sustainability; Solution Processing; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : We live in an artificially lit world, where light enhances our productivity and improves our quality of life. Today our appetite for light is stronger than ever, and emerging light-emitting technologies do not just replace the classical incandescent light bulb, they also open up for a new world of applications. 4. 4. Experimental Studies of Neutron Deficient Nuclei in the A ≈ 110 and A ≈ 170 Mass Regions

    Author : Wei Zhang; Bo Cederwall; Piotr Bednarczyk; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis describes several experimental studies on the structures of neutron-deficient nuclei with mass numbers A≈110 and A≈170. The experiments were carried out at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, using heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions induced by beams of energies around 5 megaelectronvolts/nucleon. 5. 5. Temporal Modulation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Imaging for Biological Applications

    Author : Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Jörg Enderlein; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; microscopy; modulated excitation; intensity modulation; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; transient states; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the benefits of intensity modulation for the purpose of extending the range of applications of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging in cellular and molecular biology and medicine. Long-lived transient states of fluorescent molecules can, because of their long lifetimes, be used to detect subtle changes in the microenvironment of the molecule. READ MORE
