  1. 11. Effects of the Spin-Orbit Interaction on Transport and Optical Properties of III-V Semiconductor Quantum Wells

    Author : Vladimir Froltsov; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin-orbit interaction; quantum well; III-V; Raman scattering; magnetoresistance; weak localization; spin distribution; magnetic field; Fysik; Physics; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Froltsov; Halvledarfysik; Semiconductory physics; semiconductor;

    Abstract : Effects of the intrinsic electron spin-orbit interaction on transport and optical properties of III-V semiconductor quantum wells have been studied theoretically. It is shown that due to crystal anisotropy of this interaction, the weak localization magnetoresistance in a magnetic field parallel to interfaces is very sensitive to the epitaxy growth direction and also to the orientation of the magnetic field with respect to the crystal axes. 2. 12. Airborne particulate matter in a Sub-Saharan Africa city: Nairobi, Kenya, and at an Equatorial high altitude site: Mount Kenya

    Author : Samuel Mwaniki Gaita; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray Fluorescence XRF ; Particle Induced X-ray Emission PIXE ; Particulate matter pollutants; Source apportionment; sub-Saharan Africa; Deposition fractions; High- altitude; Free troposphere; Spatial distribution;

    Abstract : In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), air quality is gravely understudied despite the existing influential factors such a rapid urbanization and population growth that negatively affect the environment. Majority of urban areas in SSA face challenges that include lack of social services, poor infrastructure development, exponential increase of second-hand vehicles and extensive use of biomass-based fuel for energy needs. Abstract : In linkage analysis or, in a wider sense, gene mapping one searches for disease loci along a genome. This is done by observing so called marker genotypes (alleles) and phenotypes (affecteds/unaffecteds) of a pedigree set, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 14. Perturbed Renewal Equations with Non-Polynomial Perturbations

    Author : Ying Ni; Dmitrii Silvestrov; Anatoliy Malyarenko; Yuri Belyaev; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Renewal equation; perturbed renewal equation; non-polynomial perturbation; exponential asymptotic expansion; risk process; ruin probability; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with a model of nonlinearly perturbed continuous-time renewal equation with nonpolynomial perturbations. The characteristics, namely the defect and moments, of the distribution function generating the renewal equation are assumed to have expansions with respect to a non-polynomial asymptotic scale: $\{\varphi_{\nn} (\varepsilon) =\varepsilon^{\nn \cdot \w}, \nn \in \mathbf{N}_0^k\}$  as $\varepsilon \to 0$, where $\mathbf{N}_0$ is the set of non-negative integers, $\mathbf{N}_0^k \equiv \mathbf{N}_0 \times \cdots \times \mathbf{N}_0, 1\leq k . 5. 15. Current harmonic modeling of aggregated electric vehicle loads in the low voltage grid

    Author : Georgios Foskolos; Erik Dahlquist; Lennart Söder; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electric Vehicles; current harmonics; modeling; aggregation; power-exponential functions; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The proliferation of Electric Vehicles (EVs) poses new challenges for the Distribution System Operator (DSO). For example, the rectifiers that are used for charging EV batteries could significantly influence Power Quality (PQ), in terms of harmonic distortion. READ MORE
