1. Inhaled Nitric Oxide Therapy : Non-response and Rebound Response
Abstract : Therapeutic inhaled nitric oxide (INO) has proved beneficial in patients with pulmonary hypertension. However, around 30-40% of the patients are non-responders to this therapy, and a life-threatening rebound response may occur during attempts to withdraw INO. READ MORE

2. DNA Damage Response of Normal Epidermis in the Clinical Setting of Fractionated Radiotherapy : Evidence of a preserved low-dose hypersensitivity response
Abstract : Investigations of DNA damage response (DDR) mechanisms in normal tissues have implications for both cancer prevention and treatments. The accumulating knowledge about protein function and molecular markers makes it possible to directly trace and interpret cellular DDR in a tissue context. READ MORE

3. Nonmalignant health effects of arsenic exposure
Abstract : This thesis comprises a series of studies concerning occupational and environmental exposure to arsenic and some novel chronic health effects of this element, namely diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Substantial prevalence of the well-known skin manifestations of arsenic ingestion was also found to occur as a result of environmental exposure through drinking water. READ MORE

4. Human response to wind turbine noise : perception, annoyance and moderating factors
Abstract : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to describe and gain an understanding of how people who live in the vicinity of wind turbines are affected by wind turbine noise, and how individual, situational and visual factors, as well as sound properties, moderate the response. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a flat, mainly rural area in Sweden, with the objective to estimate the prevalence of noise annoyance and to examine the dose-response relationship between A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) and perception of and annoyance with wind turbine noise. 5. Quartz in Swedish iron foundries : exposure and cancer risk
Abstract : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess the exposure to quartz in Swedish iron foundries and to determine the cancer morbidity for Swedish foundry workers. A cohort of 3,045 foundry workers and a final measurement database of 2,333 number of samples was established. READ MORE
