  1. 1. Uncertainty, variability and environmental risk analysis

    Author : Monika Filipsson; Tomas Öberg; Bo Bergbäck; Lars Rosén; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : Contaminated land; exposure assessment; exposure factors; risk analysis; risk perception; uncertainty; variability; probabilistic risk assessment; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : The negative effects of hazardous substances and possible measures that can be taken are evaluated in the environmental risk analysis process, consisting of risk assessment, risk communication and risk management. Uncertainty due to lack of knowledge and natural variability are always present in this process. READ MORE

  2. 2. Occupational exposure during production of wood pellets in Sweden

    Author : Katja Hagström; Kåre Eriksson; Gunilla Lindström; Paul Demers; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Occupational hygiene; wood dust; resin acids; VOC; variability; determinant of exposure; overexposure; dermal exposure; Occupational medicine; Yrkesmedicin; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess workers’ air exposure to wood dust and various chemicals, and to evaluate the variability in exposure and occupational dermal exposure to resin acids during the production of wood pellets in Sweden. Personal air measurements of wood dust, monoterpenes, resin acids and nitrogen dioxide (as a marker of diesel exhaust), accompanied by area measurements of these substances, VOCs and carbon monoxide, were performed at up to ten plants. 3. 3. Myocardial infarction and cardiac regulation in relation to vibration exposure

    Author : Bodil Björ; Per Gustavsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : vibration exposure; myocardial infarction; cardiac regulation; exposure assessment; occupational exposure; epidemiology; cohort study; case-control study; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to assess the possible risk of myocardial infarction in work entailing exposure to vibration, and to study whether there is any relation between short-term exposure to vibration and cardiac regulation. Epidemiological methods were applied to investigate a possible association between occupational exposure to vibration and myocardial infarction. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aerosol characterization in real life and a methodology for human exposure studies in controlled chamber settings

    Author : Christina Isaxon; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aerosol; human exposure study; exposure; emission; ultrafine particles; aerosol generation; aerosol characterization; candle; terpene; welding; CNT; indoor;

    Abstract : Airborne particles are everywhere around us, and have always been. Particles generated by human activities has increased drastically since industrialization, and several epidemiological studies have shown that inhaled particles can cause adverse health effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of the MRI patient exposure environment and exposure assessment methods for magnetic fields in MRI scanners

    Author : Jennifer Frankel; Jonna Wilén; Anders Garpebring; Johan Olsrud; Peter Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electromagnetic fields; exposure assessment; magnetic resonance imaging; switched gradient fields; radiofrequency fields; exposure metrics; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the most common imaging modalities available in modern medicine, and it is an indispensable diagnostic tool thanks to the unparalleled soft-tissue contrast and high image resolution. It is also a unique exposure environment consisting of a complex mix of magnetic fields. READ MORE
