  1. 1. Three-Dimensional Load-Deformation Relationships of Arbitrarily Loaded Coiled Springs

    Author : Lars Lindkvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; extended stiffness model; helical spring; non-linear deformation; stiffness matrix; coiled spring; arbitrary load; large deformation; three-dimensional;

    Abstract : This paper reports the development of a computer based tool that can be used to predict the three-dimensional load-deformation relationships of arbitrarily loaded coiled springs. The non-linear deformation of the spring is calculated by dividing the spring into small elements for which the load-deformation relationships can be considered to be linear. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structural Design of Laser-Welded Sandwich Panels for Marine Applications

    Author : Hans Kolsters; KTH; []
    Keywords : Sandwich; Laser welding; Web; Core; Stiffness; Elastic Buckling; Ultimate strength; Finite element analysis; Mechanical testing; Optimisation.;

    Abstract : In shipbuilding the replacement of stiffened platestructures by laser-welded sandwich panels offers considerableadvantages for production as well as vessel operation. In viewof reduced weight and space requirements an area of particularinterest is the incorporation of an adhesively bonded core bywhich the stiffness and strength can be substantiallyincreased, and thermal-acoustic insulation can be integrated. 3. 3. Effective development of haptic devices using a model-based and simulation-driven design approach

    Author : Aftab Ahmad; Kjell Andersson; Damien Chablat; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Haptic device; model-based design; design optimization;

    Abstract : Virtual reality (VR)-based surgical simulators using haptic devices can increase the effectiveness of surgical training for surgeons when performing surgical procedures in hard tissues such as bones or teeth milling. The realism of virtual surgery through a surgical simulator depends largely on the precision and reliability of the haptic device, which reflects the interaction with the virtual model. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanism-based flow stress model for Ti-6Al-4V : applicable for simulation of additive manufacturing and machining

    Author : Bijish Babu; Lars-Erik Lindgren; Jean-Philippe Ponthot; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material modeling; Ti-6Al-4V; dislocation density; vacancy concentration; additive manufacturing; hot forming; heat treatment; Material Mechanics; Materialmekanik;

    Abstract : Ti-6Al-4V has remarkable properties such as high specific mechanical properties (viz. stiffness, strength, toughness, fatigue resistance), corrosion resistance, biocompatibility etc. These properties make it attractive for applications in aerospace, chemical industry, energy production, surgical implants, etc. READ MORE

  5. 5. On dynamic properties of rubber isolators

    Author : Mattias Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : Rubber isolator; Dynamic stiffness; Nonlinear; Payne effect; Audible frequency; Fractional derivative; Mittag-Leffler function; Thermo-rheologically simple; Neo-Hooke;

    Abstract : This work aims at enhancing the understanding and to provideimproved models of the dynamic behavior of rubber vibrationisolators which are widely used in mechanical systems.Initially, a time domainmodel relating compressions tocomponent forces accounting for preload effects, frequency anddynamic amplitude dependence is presented.
