1. Translation, Teamwork, and Technology : The Use of Social and Material Scaffolds in the Translation Process
Abstract : This dissertation explores translators’ interactions with social and material resources in the translation process. The general aim of the study is to contribute to the knowledge about cognitive translation processes in naturalistic settings, with a specific focus on the ways in which translators interact with social actors and technological resources. 2. Accuracy of protein synthesis and its tuning by mRNA modifications
Abstract : The ribosome is a large macromolecular complex that synthesizes all proteins in the cell in all kingdoms of life. Proteins perform many vital functions, ranging from catalysis of biochemical reactions to muscle movement. It is essential for cells and organisms that proteins are synthesized rapidly and accurately. READ MORE

3. The Art of Repeating Oneself : Migratory self-adaptation: media transformation and authorship in Persepolis and The Patience Stone
Abstract : This thesis studies the process and products of migratory self-adaptation: the practice of a migrant author recreating their own work in a new medium, and the baggage it brings with itself. Migratory self-adaptation is developed and analyzed in this research through a comparative and processual analysis of two cases of adaptation: Persepolis, a French autobiographical graphic novel written and drawn by Marjane Satrapi, the Franco- Iranian artist and writer, later turned into an animation movie co-written and codirected by Satrapi herself; and The Patience Stone, a novel written in French by Atiq Rahimi, the Franco-Afghan author, which is adapted to a homonymous film in Dari- Persian, co-written and directed by the author. 4. Studies of translation in E. coli
Abstract : A cis-acting translational mutation in the beginning of the glnS gene was analyzed; this mutation creates a extra base pair to a proposed extended ribosome binding site. When increasing the complementarity to this extended ribosome binding site, it was demonstrated that the expression increased; correspondingly, when complementarity was decreasd the expression went down. 5. Accuracy of mRNA Translation in Bacterial Protein Synthesis
Abstract : Reading of messenger RNA (mRNA) by aminoacyl-tRNAs (aa-tRNAs) on the ribosomes in the bacterial cell occurs with high accuracy. It follows from the physical chemistry of enzymatic reactions that there must be a trade-off between rate and accuracy of initial tRNA selection in protein synthesis: when the current accuracy, the A-value, approaches its maximal possible value, the d-value, the kinetic efficiency of the reaction approaches zero.
