16. Predictive and prognostic factors in cervical carcinomas treated with (chemo-) radiotherapy
Abstract : A series of 131 women with cervical carcinoma FIGO stage I-IV were treated with external radiotherapy and intracavitary brachytherapy. In 47 patients (36%) concomitant chemotherapy was given. One hundred and twenty-one tumors (92%) achieved complete remission. Addition of chemotherapy increased primary cure rate to 98%. READ MORE

17. Crosslinking of Ethylene Copolymers
Abstract : The chemical reactions taking place when crosslinking poly(ethylene-co-vinyltrimethoxysilane) (EVS) have been studied. Films of EVS were stored in water at 90 °C or treated at processing temperatures in a tubular oven. The different chemical groups involved in the reactions were then followed by FTIR after different treatment times. READ MORE

18. Exploring phenomena that affect the fate and impact of radioactive materials in the blue mussel
Abstract : Current protection of the marine environment from radiation is based largely on measuring, estimating and modelling accumulation and impact(s) of radionuclides in a few marine species. Using a relevant marine organism, this thesis focusses on investigating some poorly described phenomena that could cause deviations from predicted measurements. READ MORE

19. Optimizing experimental radioimmunotherapy : investigating the different mechanisms behind radiation induced cell deaths
Abstract : Background. Radiation therapy is an important treatment regimen for malignant disease. Radiation therapy uses ionizing radiation to induce DNA damage in tumor cells in order to kill them. READ MORE

20. Mimicking the Binary World: Photochromic Compounds in Molecular Logic
Abstract : The language of the binary world is used in, e.g., electronic circuits of a computer where a signal either can be on, known as 1 or off, known as 0. In the effort to make things smaller, molecules that mimic this binary world have been suggested as potential replacements for electronic circuits. READ MORE
