  1. 31. Peptidoglycan recognition proteins in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Thomas Werner; Dan Hultmark; Bruno Lemaitre; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Drosophila; PGRP; peptidoglycan; pattern recognition; imd; Relish; isoform; RNAi; mbn-2; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster is an excellent model organism to study the innate immune response, because insects and mammals share conserved features regarding the recognition and destruction of microorganisms and Drosophila is easily accessible to genetic manipulation. In my present study, I identified a new family of pattern recognition molecules for bacterial peptidoglycan in Drosophila, the Peptidoglycan Recognition Proteins (PGRP). READ MORE

  2. 32. Fibrinogen-binding proteins from Staphylococcus aureus

    Author : Marco Palma; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Staphylococcus aureus produces a large number of proteins that specifically bind to molecules from plasma or from the human extracellular matrix where they are involved in processes associated with the colonization of the host tissues. At least six different fibrinogen-binding proteins have been identified from S. READ MORE

  3. 33. Acute inflammation on model biomaterial surfaces : studies on proteins, neutrophils and platelets

    Author : Jonas Wetterö; Ulf Sjöbring; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Although most biomedical devices are non-toxic, disturbed acute and chronic inflammation and the lack of integration in tissues is a concern. At the time of biomaterial insertion, protein adsorption onto material surfaces precedes cell adhesion and is believed to alter unfavorably the acute inflammatory response and the subsequent tissue healing. 4. 34. Protein Engineering of Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase : Characterization of Binding to Heparin and Cellular Surfaces

    Author : Ing-Marie Ahl; Lena Tibell; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; Steen Vang Petersen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Accumulating evidence indicates that oxygen free radicals are involved in many diseases and pathological conditions, such as aging, inflammation, reperfusion damage of ischemic tissue and various cardiovascular diseases. Extracellular superoxide dismutase (ECSOD) thus plays a major role in the maintenance of cells by providing protection against these toxic substances in the extracellular space. READ MORE

  5. 35. Purification and biodistribution of extracellular vesicles

    Author : Joel Z Nordin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nano-sized vesicles that contain bioactive lipids, RNAs and proteins, which can be transferred to recipient cells. EVs are important for physiological as well as pathological processes, such as coagulation and immune homeostasis, aiding cancer metastasis and spread of infectious diseases. READ MORE
