  1. 1. Assessment and reduction of the conflicts between commercial fisheries and grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) in Swedish waters

    Author : Arne Fjälling; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; conflict; fishery; grey seal; mitigate; predation; salmon; trap; konflikt; fiskeri; gråsäl; skadeförebyggande; predation; lax; fälla;

    Abstract : Along with the recovery of the Baltic Sea grey seal population from very low figures in the late 1970 's, there were clear signs of a rapidly increasing conflict between grey seals and fisheries. The set trap fisheries for salmonids seemed to be suffering the worst, but such data as were available were bard to evaluate. READ MORE

  2. 2. Protein Complexity via Non-Native States: Binding, Stability, and Structural Studies of Calbindin D9k and HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells)

    Author : Jonas Fast; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; apoptosis; oleic acid; HAMLET; kinetic trap alpha-lactalbumin; calbindin; calcium; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : Using optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC), I have studied two different calcium binding proteins that can form kinetically trapped altered states. Calcium is very important in numerous biological processes such as blood coagulation, signal transduction, muscle contraction and bone formation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mobile Performances : A Philosophical Account of Linguistic Undecidability as Possibility and Problem in the Theology of Religion

    Author : Patrik Fridlund; Tros- och livsåskådningsvetenskap; []

    Abstract : How to judge religions other than one's own when the means are lacking due to linguistic mobility? In the present thesis this question is mainly analysed in a Christian setting through a reading of the theologians Paul Knitter and Harold Netland. It is, however, claimed that the same question could be asked in other religious settings, also with regard to one's own tradition, and could be treated as a general question?how to judge, evaluate, and criticise religion if the means to do that are lacking? The thesis starts by maintaining that the question of linguistic mobility/stability is an issue in theology. READ MORE

  4. 4. Determination of Fat-Soluble Vitamins in Foods Based on Supercritical Fluid Extraction

    Author : Charlotta Turner; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Supercritical fluid extraction; Solvent collection; Solid phase trapping; SFE; Selectivity; Retinol; Milk powder; Lipase; Food; Enzymatic hydrolysis; Alcoholysis; Candida antarctica; Tocopherol; Vitamins; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Sample clean-up methodologies based on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) have been developed for determination of fat-soluble vitamins in foods. This thesis focuses on method development, stressing important issues concerning sample pre-treatment, extraction conditions and collection parameters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thermodynamics of microscopic environments: From anomalous diffusion to heat engines

    Author : Aykut Argun; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microscopic thermodynamics; anomalous diffusion; deep learning; heat engines;

    Abstract : Till skillnad från deras makroskopiska motsvarigheter utvecklas inte mikroskopiska system deterministiskt på grund av inverkan från termiskt brus. Sådana system är föremål för fluktuationer som endast kan studeras inom ramen för stokastisk termodynamik. READ MORE
