  2. 2. Flower Cues for Hawkmoths: Colour, Place and Odour

    Author : Anna Balkenius; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoologi; Zoology; olfaction; vision; learning; multimodal; Macroglossum stellatarum; Hawkmoth; Deilephila elpenor;

    Abstract : Flowers use different cues to attract pollinators including colour and odour. How do hawkmoths use these cues to find the flowers? This question was investigated in two species of hawkmoth, the diurnal species, Macroglossum stellatarum, and the nocturnal species, Deilephila elpenor. Both species have colour vision and D. 3. 3. Anionic Graft Copolymers with Poly(ethylene oxide) Side-Chains; Synthesis, Solution Properties and Ion Conduction

    Author : Helene Dérand; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dieletric properites; ion conduction; solution properties; aggregation; amphiphilic polymers; poly ethylene oxide ; preparation; grafting; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik;

    Abstract : The research underlaying this thesis involves synthesis and characterization of well-defined anionic graft copolymers carrying poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) side-chains. Two different grafting techniques were used. Backbone polymers were prepared through radical terpolymerization of maleic anhydride, styrene and an additional comonomer. READ MORE

  4. 4. Colour Vision in Birds : Comparing behavioural thresholds and model predictions

    Author : Peter Olsson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gallus gallus; receptor noise; visual modelling; animal training; colour discrimination; colour constancy;

    Abstract : Birds use colour vision for many biologically relevant behaviours such as foraging and mate choice. Bird colour vision is mediated by four types of single cones, giving them an extra dimension of colour information compared to trichromatic humans. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quality Aspects of Modified Atmosphere Packaged Broccoli

    Author : Annelie Jacobsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; heat transfer; mass transport; quality; flavour; aroma; modified atmosphere packaging; broccoli;

    Abstract : The modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) of vegetables is used with the aim of prolonging the shelf-life of the packaged produce. The packaging material consists of a permeable film and as a result of the respiration of the produce and gas diffusion through the film, the O2 decreases and the CO2 increases inside the package.
