  1. 6. Liver regeneration : With reference to malnutrition and growth factors

    Author : Stefan Skullman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : cholecystokinin; energy substrates; epidermal growth factor; insulin-like growth factor I; liver composition; liver regeneration; malnutrition; pancreaticobiliary diversion; protein synthesis; rat; transfonning growth factor alpha; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The liver has a unique capacity to regenerate after damage, irrespective of cause. The regulatory mechanisms of this regeneration are not fully known. Liver regeneration· is associated with rapid growth and thereby increased demands for energy and synthesis of new compounds. READ MORE

  2. 7. Water and alkali salts in the hydrating and hardened green cement-based materials: Hydration process, moisture content and transport

    Author : Liming Huang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Formation factor; Electrical conductivity; Moisture transport; Pore structure; Sustainable cement-based materials; Hydration; Alkali salts; Supplementary cementitious materials;

    Abstract : Reducing CO2 emissions in the production of cementitious binder is the most effective way to decrease the environmental impact of the construction industry, so a large amount of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) has been used in the green concrete. Both the SCMs and alkali salts in binders influence the hydration process and the structure in hardened cement-based materials. READ MORE

  3. 8. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth

    Author : Ville Wallenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Liver; cytokine; interleukin-6; tumor necrosis factor; primary liver growth promoter; cyproterone acetate; nafenopin; hepatocyte growth factor; HGF receptor; tumor; sarcoma; N-terminal; truncated;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain. 4. 9. Macrophage Activation and AP-1 in Atherosclerosis

    Author : Maria Stollenwerk; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Cardiovascular system; carotid plaque; interleukin-1b; caspase-1.; very low-density lipoprotein; fatty acids; activator protein-1; inflammation; Atherosclerosis; nuclear factor-kB; macrophages; tumor necrosis factor;

    Abstract : High levels of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and intermediate density lipoprotein (IDL) have been identified as independent risk factors for coronary heart disease. Hypertriglyceridemia is generally associated with an increased expression of inflammatory makers and inflammation is thought to contribute to atherosclerosis and its complications. READ MORE

  5. 10. Moisture Induced Stress Perpendicular to Grain in Timber Structures

    Author : Martin Häglund; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood.; timber; perpendicular to grain; load combination factor; tensile stress; mechano-sorption; Moisture induced eigen-stress; varying moisture content;

    Abstract : Timber structures and wooden element are in general affected by moisture and moisture variation in different ways. Their hygroscopic properties result in adsorption of water when wetted and in desorption when dried. READ MORE
