  1. 1. Essays in economics : The impact of changes on the labor market induced by structural change, the adoption of a new computer-based technology and economic slowdowns on family formation, family fertility outcomes and new careers

    Author : Tamara Thornquist; Peter Skogman Thoursie; Jonas Vlachos; Hans Grönqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Labor market; structural change; polarization of earnings; computer-based technology; economic slowdowns; family formation; family fertility outcomes; careers; college graduates; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : Childlessness, Number of Children and The Labor Market at the Time of a New Technology, the US 1980-2018The adoption of a new computer-based technology in the US in the late 1970s resulted in broad changes on the labor market that can be described by two major phenomena - job polarization and a shift in the relative returns to skill. A well established theoretical and empirical literature shows that commuting zones with a historically greater specialization in routine task intensive occupations adopted the new computer-based technology faster and subsequently saw greater changes on the local labor markets. 2. 2. Observations on morphology and function of cutaneous and subcutaneous sensory mechanoreceptors : an experimental study in mammals

    Author : Birgit Stark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : mechanoreceptors; somatosensory organisation; blood-nerve barrier; Glucose transporter-1; nerve regeneration; TGF-ß family; neurotrophin receptors;

    Abstract : Tactile sensory discrimination is dependent upon an intact system of peripheral mechanoreceptors, their nerve fibre afferents with cell bodies in the dorsal root ganglion and the dorsal column-medial lemniscal system which relays tactile information from the skin to the cortex. Injury to any part of the afferent pathways leads to compromised mechanoreceptive perception. READ MORE

Yet, critics claim that power asymmetries stand in the way of realising the potential of participatory planning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structural studies of three cell signaling proteins : crystal structures of EphB1, PTPA, and YegS

    Author : Amin Bakali; Pär Nordlund; Wenqing Xu; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein production; structural genomics; cell signaling; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Kinases and phosphatases are key regulatory proteins in the cell. The disruption of their activities leads ultimately to the abolishment of the homeostasis of the cell, and is frequently correlated with cancer. EphB1 is a member of the largest family of receptor tyrosine kinases. It is associated with neurogenesis, angiogenesis, and cancer. READ MORE

    Keywords : Cornea; Corneal Dystrophy; Dystrophia Smolandiensis; Dystrophia Helsinglandica; Recurrent Erosions; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Recurrent corneal erosions are a common complication of superficial corneal wounds. They most commonly arise following a trauma, in association with various corneal dystrophies, or are idiopathic. READ MORE
