  1. 21. Cell and Gene Therapy for Parkinson's Disease: Therapeutic Effect and Modulation of Dyskinesias in the 6-OHDA Rat Model

    Author : Thomas Carlsson; Brain Repair and Imaging in Neural Systems (BRAINS); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; neurofysiologi; Medicin människa och djur ; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Parkinson?s disease; Serotonin; Tyrosine hydroxylase; Ventral mesenchephalon; Motor behavior; L-DOPA; GTP cyclohydrolase 1; Gene therapy; Dyskinesias; Cell transplantation; Dopamine; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The main pathological feature in Parkinson's disease is the progressive loss of dopamine neurons in the midbrain, which in turn leads to the appearance of motor deficits such as akinesia/bradykinesia (loss/slowness of movements), rigidity, postural imbalance and tremor. To this day, there is no cure for the disease, but there are medications to relieve the symptoms. READ MORE

  2. 22. Pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil induced cardiotoxicity : a clinical and experimental study

    Author : Magdalena Cwikiel; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; cell culture.; scanning and transmission electron microscopy; endothelium; lipid peroxidation; free radical; fibrinogen; 5-fluorouracil; blood and plasma viscosity; cardiotoxicity; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) induced cardiotoxicity. The aim of the clinical studies was to determine whether hemorheological factors might explain 5-FU cardiotoxicity (I) and if the syndrome was associated with free radical (FR) generation and lipid peroxidation (II). 3. 23. Effect of Cholecystokinin-B/Gastrin Receptor Antagonists on Rat Stomach ECL Cells

    Author : Xi-Qin Ding; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; vävnadskultur; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; gastrin; cholecystokinin CCK receptors; ECL cells; CCK-B gastrin receptor antagonists; histidine decarboxylase HDC ; histamine; pancreastatin; chromogranin A CGA ; gastric acid secretion.; cytochemistry; Histology; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The histamine- and pancreastatin- containing ECL cells in the acid-producing mucosa of the rat stomach operate under the control of circulating gastrin. The present work examines how cholecystokinin (CCK)-B/gastrin receptors regulate the activity of the ECL cells. READ MORE

  4. 24. Origin, release and functional significance of the novel gastric hormone ghrelin

    Author : Charlotta Dornonville de la Cour; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxicology; Farmakologi; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; Pharmacological sciences; bone metabolism; energy homeostasis; glucagon; insulin; secretion; pancreastatin; somatostatin; histamine; gastrin; gastric acid secretion; ghrelin; gastric motility; A-like cells; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The novel gastric hormone ghrelin was discovered by virtue of its ability to release growth hormone (GH) via interaction with the so-called GH-secretagogue receptor (GHS-R). Earlier only synthetic agents were known to bind with the GHS-R, hence, ghrelin is the first identified endogenous ligand. READ MORE

    Abstract : Objective: To explore the long-term course and to study factors of potential relevance for the treatment and rehabilitation process of patients with schizophrenia and schizophrenia-like disorders. Specific issues concerned cognitive reduction, tardive dyskinesia (TD), prolactin-induced side effects, remission and lack of insight. READ MORE
