1. Fatigue and Peripheral Muscle Dysfunction: Studies on Vitamin D Status, Muscle Metabolism and Systemic Inflammation in Patients with COPD : Aspects of COPD severity beyond FEV1 and exacerbations
Abstract : BackgroundThe severity of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is usually described in terms of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and number of exacerbations. However, COPD is a complex disease with different ways of expression, involving pulmonary symptoms, extra pulmonal manifestations and comorbidities, which altogether affect the patient by contributing to reduced functional capacity, increased shortness of breath, reduced health-related quality of life and increased mortality. 2. Fatigue in long-term illness : Influencing factors and functional performance in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and in cancer
READ MORE

3. Assessing Physical Activity and Physical Capacity in Subjects with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to assess measurement properties of methods suitable for screening or monitoring of physical capacity and physical activity in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and to explore factors associated with physical activity levels. Methods: Four observational studies were conducted. 4. The relevance and assessment of limb muscle function in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Abstract : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that is characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. Consequences beyond the airways and lungs are common, and include limb muscle dysfunction. READ MORE

5. Fatigue, functional status, health and pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to describe fatigue, functional limitations due to fatigue and health in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as to compare patients with individuals from the general population and to test if pulmonary rehabilitation can reduce fatigue and functional limitations, and thus improve health. A further aim was to test the Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS) among patients with COPD. READ MORE
