1. Topology Optimization of Fatigue-Constrained Structures
Abstract : Fatigue, or failure of material due to repeated cyclic loading, is one of the most common causes of mechanical failures. The risk of fatigue in a load carrying component is often lowered by adding material, thereby reducing stresses. READ MORE

2. A statistical approach to multi-input equivalent fatigue loads for the durability of automotive structures
Abstract : In the automotive industry, due to temporal and financial constraints, we need to strongly reduce the duration of the design phase, but still ensure reliability and robustness. Structures in service are often exposed to complex variable amplitude loads. READ MORE

3. The Fight on the Flights : Emergency evacuations – human physiological performance, leg muscle activity and gait biomechanics during exhaustive stair and slope ascent
Abstract : Physical exhaustion can constrain stair ascending capacity during emergency evacuation. The overall aim of this research was to explore and compare stair ascending capacities and physiological limitations when using two different modes: 1) self-preferred pace on three different public stairways, and 2) four machine-controlled paces on a stair machine corresponding to different percentages of maximal aerobic capacity (V̇O2max). 4. Stress and fatigue constrained topology optimization
Abstract : This thesis concerns structural optimization in conceptual design stages, for which constraints that are adapted to industrial requirements have been developed for topology optimization problems. The objective of the project has been to identify and solve problems that today prevent structural optimization from being used in a broader sense in the avionic industry; the main focus has been on stress and fatigue constraints in topology optimization. 5. Topology optimization considering stress, fatigue and load uncertainties
Abstract : This dissertation concerns structural topology optimization in conceptual design stages. The objective of the project has been to identify and solve problems that prevent structural topology optimization from being used in a broader sense in the avionic industry; therefore the main focus has been on stress and fatigue constraints and robustness with respect to load uncertainties.
