  1. 1. Livestock, feed production and land use – an environmental assessment

    Author : Yaw Sasu-Boakye; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; partial equilibrium modelling; land use impacts; livestock production; soya beans; life cycle assessments; ecosystem services; protein feeds; feed substitution;

    Abstract : The use of land for agriculture contributes substantially to today’s global environmental challenges such as climate change, water and land degradation and biodiversity loss. Today, about 38% of the ice-free land surface on earth is used as agricultural land, with about 75% of agricultural land used to produce feed for livestock. READ MORE

  2. 2. Beef production based on cassava products and legume foliage in Vietnam

    Author : Thang Chu Manh; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine the associative effects of supplemental sources of protein, or protein and energy, using cassava products and legume foliage on rumen degradability, in vivo digestibility, feed intake and growth rate of crossbred growing cattle. First it was hypothesized that the substitution of a part of a conventional concentrate with mixed cassava and legume foliage will positively influence rumen degradability and improve the performance of growing cattle. 3. 3. Characterisation of dietary fibre in cereal grains and products : emphasis on triticale and rye

    Author : Allah Rakha; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Utility of cereals is mainly defined by their composition. High content of extractable dietary fibre (DF) with retained molecular features may be desired for human consumption to derive certain benefits associated with DF. READ MORE

  4. 4. Small-Scale Production of Fuel-Cell Hydrogen

    Author : Christian Hulteberg; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrogen; Chemical Engineering; Catalysis; Small-Scale;

    Abstract : The work presented here aims at producing hydrogen for proton-exchange fuel-cell applications from hydrocarbons. This thesis describes an integrated catalytic converter comprising a steam-reforming reactor (heat of reaction supplied by catalytic combustion), a water-gas shift reactor and a preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide reactor, and the work performed on the fuel processing catalysts therein.
