  1. 1. Fluid-rock interaction in two seismically active areas : The Tjörnes Fracture Zone, northern Iceland and the Shillong Plateau, northeastern India

    Author : Lillemor Claesson; Alasdair Skelton; Steven Ingebritsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Tjörnes Fracture Zone; Shillong Plateau; Iceland; India; hydrogeochemical monitoring; earthquakes; geothermal; transition metals; dissolution; basalt; feldspar weathering; source switching; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Hydrogeochemical monitoring can improve our understanding of fluid-rock interaction, and may detect anomalies that are precursory to- or caused by- earthquakes. In this study, hydrogeochemical monitoring was carried out in two distinct tectonic settings, to study coupling between hydrogeochemical changes and seismic activity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Regolith Properties of Mercury Derived from Observations and Modelling

    Author : Johan Warell; Nick Thomas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Mercury; Moon; imaging; photometry; spectroscopy; regolith; space weathering; light scattering; spectral modelling; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : The properties of Mercury's regolith have been investigated at optical and near-infrared wavelengths with high-resolution imaging, photometric, and spectroscopic observations with the Swedish Vacuum Solar Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. A new global optical map at a spatial resolution of 200 km shows that the well known (from Mariner 10) and poorly known hemispheres are indistinguishable with respect to the distribution, number density, and morphological parameters of bright albedo features. 3. 3. Dissolution Kinetics and Alteration Products of Micas and Epidote in Acidic Solutions at Room Temperature

    Author : Birgitta Estmark Kalinowski; Per Aagaard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Abstract : The reaction kinetics of the weathering of several phyllosilicates and one sorosilicate were stud ied experimentally. The alteration products were characterised by various methods in clud ing XRD, HRTEM, SEM, FTIR, NMR and Mössbauer spectroscopy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mineral dissolution from molecular to field scale

    Author : Heléne Strandh; William H. Casey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Abstract : Mineral reactivity contributes to the global biogeochemical cycling of elements. CO2is consumed during the chemical weathering of many silicates and during formation of carbonates in the oceans. READ MORE

  5. 5. Geological, geochemical and mineralogical characterization of non-metallic mineral deposits in the La Paz region, Bolivia

    Author : Ariana Zeballos; Christina Wanhainen; Pär Weihed; Olav Eklund; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malmgeologi; Ore Geology;

    Abstract : Industrial mineral resources are a promising source of economic development in Bolivia where the mining industry’s main focus is on metalliferous deposits. The industrial mineral resources in Bolivia are of large quantity, even though they remain only locally known, as well as understudied to a large degree. READ MORE
