1. Internal fixation of femoral neck fractures
Abstract : The incidence of femoral neck fractures in elderly people is rising requiring large health care resources. Internal fixation of the fracture is the treatment of choice in Scandinavia, but in 20-40% of the cases a late complication such as a segmental collapse of the femoral head after initial bone necrosis, or a non-union of the fracture because of non-healing, will occur. 2. Osteotomy for gonarthrosis - with special reference to the tibial callus distraction technique
Abstract : Osteotomy is used for correction of the altered load on the gonarthrotic knee joint. It can be performed above or below the knee. Clinical results depend on the correction after bone healing. READ MORE

3. External Fixation of Femoral Fractures in Children : Clinical, radiological and functional outcome and cost analysis
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the outcome when treating children for displaced femoral fractures with external fixation. In a consecutive and prospective study during the period 1993-2000, 96 children aged 3-15 years with 98 displaced femoral fractures were treated with external fixation and early mobilisation. The mean age was 8. READ MORE

4. Legg-Calvé-Perthes´ disease. Synovitis, cartilage, remodeling
Abstract : This thesis evaluates and correlates the findings in a series of children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes´ Disease at the Departments of Orthopedics, University Hospitals in Lund, Sweden and Odense, Denmark during 1984-1993. It focuses on the importance of synovitis and its effect on the cartilage, on the shape of the femoral head in the early phases of LCPD and on femoral head remodeling after proximal femoral varus derotation osteotomy. 5. Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease
Abstract : The aims of this study were: to compare the cartilaginous outline of the femoral head obtained on arthrograms with those on MR images and to correlate it to the bony head outlines on conventional radiograps; to study early, postoperative cartilaginous and bony remodeling of the femoral head, after proximal femoral varus derotation extension osteotomy, with MR imaging and conventional radiography; to describe signal abnormalities on MR images in the femoral epiphysis, their location, extent and restitution over time; to evaluate the degree and persistence of synovitis in the hip joint by MR imaging; to analyze the metaphyseal histology and to correlate it to the signal intensity on the MR images in the corresponding biopsy region. Results and conclusions: MR imaging and arthrography define the shape of the femoral head cartilage equally well. READ MORE
